Varla Eagle One…A tried and true, Multi-Purpose Electric Scooter!
The Eagle One from Varla is priced at 1,699 US and is advertised to cover up to 40 miles at speeds up to 40 mph, see below for my actual performance. This electric scooter is aimed at multiple use scenarios including: commuting, general recreation, light offroading, and speed seekers.
This electric scooter is built on one of the most tried and true performance scooter formats out there. A 2 year warranty is nice to see on some parts of the scooter, unfortunately the motor, battery, and charger are only warrantied for 1 year.
Varla was so successful at coming in at a lower price, with more features and extras, than the Zero 10x that RevRides, who previously carried the 10x in the US, had a website header that read “The #1 Varla Alternative….”
Specifications
The Varla Eagle One is a dual 1,000 watt motor electric scooter with 52 volts and 18.2 amp hours of battery capacity. It is brought to a halt with Zoom hydraulic disc brakes with 140mm rotors. Dual suspension with adjustable travel sits atop 10-inch tubed tires, these combine to give plenty of confidence to deal with just about any type of surface.
Deck
The Eagle One has a generous deck and Varla was generous enough to provide 3 extra grip tape deck covers. This allows for customization or replacement should you ever have to open the deck to reach the battery or controller (bolts to the deck are under the grip tape). This is just another way that Varla hits it out of the park with their extra’s that add value and help with maintenance.
The finger throttle can feel like a reach for people with small hands, therefore cruise control is my preferred option for long rides. For reference I tested this scooter with the followings performance P settings:
P8 = 100%, P11 = 2, light electronic braking and P12 = 3, medium torque start.
Varla includes the full suite of P settings in the manual. Some of the things you can turn off and on include: cruise control, start from stop, degree of electronic braking, take off power….there are a lot of options available to get this e-scooter set up to your liking.
There is also an key/voltmeter for extra security and knowing your current voltage, note that voltage is also available in the display itself.
Integrated deck light front and rear provide some visibility to others, the brake lights flash during braking for added visibility. The front deck lights do not provide sufficient lighting for night riding, luckily there is plenty of space up on the handlebars for one of my favorite lights!
Folding
The stem folds after loosening the two clamps and sliding the collar up, almost always with some fidgeting and fumbling. There is no catch for the handlebars so you will be using two hands creatively to move this ~70 lb scooter around. If folding is something you are doing regularly, there may be better scooter options for you.
The stem does have some movement to it, there are optional clamps and shims if the movement bothers you. I believe some movement actually enhances safety, so for me, the stem movement is a non-issue.
Size Dimensions
The Eagle One is a large scooter, the tall deck gives a really good view of the road. The metal brace plate is great for added control if you decide to push the performance limits. The standing platform is 19 X 9 in (483 X 229mm) allowing changing foot positions. The handlebars are at a nice height [40 in (1016 mm)]for most riders. A bike style stem clamp allows the rider to swap stems if a different height or reach is desired.
How it Rides!
The Eagle One takes a few rides to really get comfortable. The power, handling, and suspension all benefit from customization to really get the best experience. It is powerful and snappy in turbo mode with eco mode being a bit more controlled. Single motor mode does not provide the best ride as you are working against the front motor, ride and control are better in dual motor mode.
The brake feel is good though typically needs out of the box adjustment. The Zoom hydraulic brakes are an improvement over some other models’ mechanical options.

Performance
Acceleration is quite fast with the limiting factor being keeping the tires from spinning. The power is more than enough for just about any use scenario I can dream up. The dual 1,000 watt motors are nearly silent, leaving only the wind to fill your ears.
Braking is good but limited by the weight of the scooter. Braking technique can improve stopping distance significantly.
Hills are nothing, it flies right up, just like it’s Eagle name!
Surprises
Nothing surprising in the scooter itself, you get what you see. Where Varla surprises in how many extras you get. You can customize and maintain your scooter for miles and miles, right out of the box.
Disappointments
My only disappointment is there haven’t been any changes to the platform, the scooter is really ready for a refresh if it wants to keep pace with the market.
Conclusion
The Eagle One is a very cost effective entry into the fun and powerful dual-motor electric scooter world. It is a scooter that you may grow out of but also one you will likely keep around for future riding buddies. 52 volts is still a great option and the performance is not that far behind the 60 volt scooters…until about 35 mph.

The Electron Pro-X does not get a floorboard like conventional scooters but features a step-through format like the newly launched Yamaha Aerox. The company has utilized the floorboard space to store batteries.

The Electron Pro Max uses a 9.6 kW electric motor which takes all its juice from two 5.4 kWh batteries. The power from the electric motor is transferred to the rear wheels via a chain drive. The scooter gets two removable batteries which can be charged at home or at the office securely.
The Electron Pro Max can accelerate from 0-40 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 100 km/h. Electron promises a range of 200 km on a single charge which helps eliminate range anxiety.
The scooter gets 13-inch wheels and uses disc brakes on both ends for stopping. The Electron Pro Max is the only electric scooter featuring ABS, which prevents the scooter from locking up its wheels during panic braking situations.
