There’s nothing more aggravating than when your gadget’s battery runs out of juice. For some devices, it’s an annoying inconvenience, but for others it can be a big problem. Priced at 499, the Levy electric scooter’s removable battery means you can always have a spare on hand, ensuring that you don’t get stranded during a long ride. And this is one scooter you’ll want to ride for a while, too. Its smooth motion and powerful motor make it one of the best electric scooters we’ve tested.
Levy Electric Scooter design
The Levy is a nice-looking electric scooter. While a few wires protrude here and there, it keeps a sleek profile. When unfolded, the Levy measures 49.5 inches tall and is 41.5 inches long. When folded, it measures 17 inches high, which was small enough to fit underneath a train seat. However, unlike the Glion Dolly, the Levy’s handlebars do not fold in, so it’s a bit bulkier.
The scooter is available in three color variations: black with turquoise accents, black with red accents, and blue accents with a silver front post.
Levy Electric Scooter controls and display
The controls for the Levy are spartan but effective. On the right side is a thumb throttle that has a power button and a menu button. Using just these two buttons, you can set cruise control, switch between the three speed modes, and turn the scooter’s headlight on and off.
A circular light-emitting diode (LED)) display, roughly the size of a silver dollar, sits in the middle of the handlebars. It’s a very bright display, and was easily readable in full sunlight. The screen shows your speed and approximate remaining battery life. I say approximate, because on some rides, the screen would show two bars of battery life, but the scooter would refuse to move unless I was on a level or downhill grade.

Unlike most electric scooters, which have their battery built into the deck, the Levy’s battery is inside the downtube. It’s also removable, so you can swap it out for a replacement on the fly. (Replacements cost 140 each). While I can’t imagine many scenarios in which you’d need a spare battery — maybe if you use it for deliveries), it’s a nice feature. However, this also makes the downtube thicker than on other scooters, so those with smaller hands may have more trouble carrying the Levy.
In the middle of the handlebars is a small LED headlight, which wasn’t as powerful (nor adjustable) like the Glion Dolly, but it kept the road ahead illuminated. The Levy also has a tail light, which also flashes whenever you apply the brakes. It’s a Smart feature that all electric scooters should adopt.

The Levy’s tubeless tires are air-filled, which I’ve found do more to ensure a smooth ride than anything else. Riding over potholes and sidewalk cracks was much less jarring than with the Glion Dolly, which has rubber wheels. Because the Levy’s wheels are air-filled, they are prone to punctures (though this didn’t happen in my testing); spares cost 10 apiece.
Powered by a front-wheel-drive, 350-watt motor, the Levy was one of the zippiest scooters I’ve used. I was impressed with its speed — up to 18 miles per hour—as well as its ability to get my 200-pound body up inclines with ease. It took me up hills better than the Glion and the Swagtron Swagger 5.
I also liked the Levy’s cruise-control feature. When enabled, the scooter would stay at a consistent speed as long as I maintain that speed for a few seconds. This option keeps you from having to hold your thumb on the throttle, and a simple tap of the brakes turns off cruise control.
The Levy has a rear disc brake, which was very effective. Because the scooter uses a traditional hand grip (on the left handlebar), I found I was able to apply just the right amount of pressure.
The battery was beefy enough to keep me riding through my entire six-mile test course, with a little juice left over. However, there was only enough power for riding on a level or downhill surface: The motor would stop if I tried going uphill.
The Levy is one of the best electric scooters for 500. It’s powerful, comfortable and has a number of Smart features. Those who plan to take the device scooter on public transportation should check out the Glion Dolly (also 499), as it has more commuter-friendly features, but overall, the Levy provides a smoother ride for the money.

The 36 V 6.4 Ah (230 Wh) Panasonic battery offers a range of 15 Mi (25 km) in ECO mode, 8-10 Mi (13-16 km) in Sports mode. The range is pretty low compared to scooters in the price category. On the brighter side, though, the battery can easily be replaced in seconds to prolong the range. To put this in context, you can carry a backup battery (or two or three) in your backpack to extend the range if you’re going for longer trips.
Top Speed Acceleration
The Levy electric scooter has a top speed of 18 mph (30.6 kph). The maximum speed can only be achieved when the scooter is switched to Sport mode. The Levy is one of the fastest commuting scooters at this speed, with plenty of models in this category having an average top speed of 15 mph and below.
For the acceleration, the scooter has a highly responsive throttle with smooth, non-jerky acceleration. Simply push down the ergonomic throttle using your thumb in zero start mode, and off you go with punchy acceleration. Additionally, there is no delay in acceleration pickup. Even at full throttle, the scooter’s acceleration is surprisingly quiet- you won’t have to keep up with annoying creepy kink noise from the motor.
Hill climbing is another crucial aspect to consider when shopping for a scooter, especially if you reside in hilly areas. Levy claims that its Original electric scooter can comfortably climb 5-10 degree hills. Above this, the scooter loses power and appears to struggle. The scooter’s gradeability is dependent on several factors, including the rider’s weight and battery juice.
The Levy electric scooter has an abundance of controls and a very bright display at the centre of the handlebar. You’ll find the rubberised thumb throttle on the right side of the handlebar, with the power button and mode toggle button attached to its housing. Using the power and mode toggle buttons conveniently placed on the thumb throttle housing, you can seamlessly change the riding mode from Eco to Sport (and vice versa), turn the headlight on/off, or even turn on the cruise control feature to maintain a consistent speed during long rides.
On the left side of the handlebar, you’ll find the brake lever and an integrated bell. An intuitive and super-bright LCD display is placed at the centre of the handlebar. The display console hardly takes up space and measures about 2 inches in diameter. It informs you of your speed, gear mode, mileage, system errors and battery state of charge. The display can be read even under direct sunlight.
There are different scooter functions activated by pressing the menu buttons on the Levy Electric Scooter as follows:
- To power on/off the scooter, press on the power button for at least 2 seconds.
- To alternate between the different gear modes, press on the function key once. Do this till you achieve your desired mode; Beginner (no character indicator), Eco (white characters) or Sports mode (red characters).
- To turn on the headlights, double tap on the function button in Rapid succession. Notably, the taillight is always on. When both lights are on, it is possible to shut down both lights, including the tail light, by double-tapping on the function button.
- Maintain a constant speed for about 6 six seconds, and a beep sound will alert you that the scooter is riding on cruise control. Engaging the brakes or throttle while on this mode deactivates the cruise control.
Battery Life Range
The Levy electric scooter has a manufacturer-claimed range of 15 miles (25 km) in ECO mode, 8-10 miles (13-16 km) in Sports Mode. Expect a slightly reduced range in real-world situations depending on your weight, speed, terrain, inclination, and riding mode.
The scooter is fitted with a 36 V 6.4 Ah (230 Wh) Panasonic battery encased in the stem for the battery. The battery can seamlessly be removed and swapped with a backup battery (purchased separately) for an extended range- say goodbye to range anxiety. As a mass electric scooter, Levy had to ensure that the removable battery process was seamless without involving complex processes and tools like Segway’s Ninebot ES4. The process is straightforward- Flip open the display console to access the storage area and pull out the ribbon attached to the top-facing end of the 1.36 Kg battery.
The removable battery feature comes with extra benefits and is gaining popularity with riders, as seen on the Swagtron SG7. You get control over your range by carrying the number of extra battery packs that you feel would power the length of your journey- it only costs you about £100/ 139 per battery. Additionally, the swappable battery system allows convenience in charging as it can be charged independently. Further, the removable battery feature guarantees you long life since you don’t have to purchase a new scooter once the battery starts to deplete. The battery is light, and carrying it in your travel bag will not affect your payload significantly.
The Levy scooter is one of the few budget electric scooters with a removable and swappable battery, providing plenty of benefits. Better still, the battery charges in under 3 hours, faster than the average charging time of budget scooters, i.e., 4-6 hours. Even better, the regenerative braking recharges the battery on the go, adding to your scooter’s range. Levy has further instituted a backup feature in the event that one runs out of battery power and does not have a replacement at hand- the scooter can also be used as a standard kickscooter.

The scooter’s construction integrates an easy folding mechanism at the front and a safety lock for easy transportation. The plastic covers on the rear and front fender are not very strong, and might crack or break if exposed to rough handling. The scooter also features a robust kickstand that might be a little too long as it takes a few tries to find a comfortable parking position.

The extra spacious deck will allow for perpendicular standing and is covered with rubber to allow for a more sturdy stance.
The high mounted headlight, rear lights and reflectors allow for safe riding in low light conditions. The safety is further complemented by the presence of a bell, which is unfortunately inaudible to road users at a distance.
The Levy electric scooter boasts a triple braking system encompassing the front E-ABS regenerative brake, a rear foot brake, and the rear disc brake. The scooter’s braking system is so cleverly designed, one lever will activate both the rear disc brake and regenerative brake. The lever features an electronic sensor, which allows it to control both mechanisms. A slight pull on this single handle activates just your regen brakes, while pulling down further engages both the front regen e-brake and rear disc brake.
When the battery runs out of juice, power to the motor is completely cut, which renders the front electronic brake useless. However, with the scooter’s ability to function as a kick scooter, you can continue on your journey. Levy also added a fender brake, which supplements the disc brake in such events. With the triple braking system, you’re guaranteed to stop even if the primary brakes (disc brake and regenerative electronic brake) fail. The triple braking system allows for quick, precise, and smooth stopping.
Weighing 27 pounds (12.2Kg), the Levy is one of the lightest budget scooters. The scooter features a fully foldable stem, which folds to 106 centimetres by 42 centimetres by 45 centimetres. The Levy’s folding mechanism is straightforward, encompassing a metal lever and an additional safety collar. To fold the scooter, you simply need to pull the safety collar to the side, then bring down the metal lever. The stem consists of a hook that attaches to the rear fender, locking it in a folded position for easy carrying. Folding and carrying this scooter is a breeze, and you shouldn’t have any problem unless you have small hands owing to the thick stem. In essence, the Levy is designed for easy carrying, storage, and portability.
The Levy electric scooter is rated IP54, meaning that it can withstand light showers and dust. As such, it’s safe to ride in wet conditions, perhaps when you’re caught up in the rain or riding through water puddles. However, please note that the scooter cannot handle a full submersion, and it can quickly get damaged.
The Levy Original electric scooter comes with dual lights: a single LED headlight and a rear LED taillight. The headlight is not the brightest, but provides sufficient forward illumination to cover the immediate track distance. So when Eric, the founder of Levy, reached out to me with the offer to do a LevyPlus electric scooter review, I jumped at the chance.
Below you will find my honest thoughts about the scooter, including what I liked and what I didn’t.
Overview of the LevyPlus Electric Scooter
Before we get to my detailed thoughts, you should first have a general understanding of what the main selling points of this scooter model are.
After opening the box, I was again surprised, but this time as how simple the design and packaging team had made the scooter.
There were only two parts within the larger box. A scooter…
… and the handlebars, charger, allen wrench, and instructions.
There team had managed to find a way to ship a practically pre-assembled scooter in the box.
I knew right away that assembly would be a cinch.
Setting Up the LevyPlus Electric Scooter
The scooter setup couldn’t have been simpler. It only required 3 steps:
- Screw in the handlebars (left and right)
- Secure the pivoting handlebar steering column with the metal clip
- Tighten the hand brake to the handlebars
Unlike other models I’ve tested in the past, the setup took me only 2 minutes and 32 seconds (yes, I timed it).
Once these three steps were completed, the only thing stopping be from riding was a full charge of the battery.
Charging the LevyPlus Electric Scooter
The process of charging the LevyPlus electric scooter was fairly simple – plug one end of the charging unit into the wall, and the other end into the scooter.
As you can see, the charging port is underneath the scooter’s battery.
The placement of this charging port means that a long cord isn’t required – saving valuable space.
I’ve tested some other units with much longer charging cords, which are a bit of a pain to store.
With this unit’s compact charging cord, this is not a problem.
The one unusual thing I did notice during charging was that the unit did not appear to have a staus indicator to let me know it was charging.
When plugged in, the screen remained black and there did not appear to be a light or anything to let me know it was charging.
My Initial thoughts
Initially, before even riding, I couldn’t help but be impressed.
The scooter has a solid construction, being made from solid materials that appear to have been chosen for the quality of the build rather than to cheap out and save money.
It is also built with an IP54 water resistance rating, meaning the scooter will hold up in conditions that are less than ideal.
Again, this speaks to the lengths the company has gone to ensure customers receive a quality product.
It holds its own in terms of design, too, as you can see when compared side by side to a 1,200 Segway Ninebot.
As a 6’5″ 200lb rider, I much rather prefer the slightly larger LevyPlus scooter over the Ninebot.
The taller handlebars and wider base are much more comfortable to ride, allowing me to fully stand up instead of being hunched over holding the handlebars.

My Experience With This Scooter
Once I got the scooter set up and charged, it was time to ride.
What immediately stuck out to me was how nice this scooter felt to ride.
The 10″ air-inflated wheels glide over cracks, bumps, and other small things in the road with ease.
The manufacturer purposely sends the scooter with tires that are underinflated.
Personally, I would rather have a smoother ride with slightly underinflated tires than have a bumpy one with tires full of air.
It really comes down to user preference, though. I’d suggest giving various air pressures a try and finding what works best for your riding environment.
Riders can choose between three modes of riding:
- Beginner Mode: The slowest and most forgiving mode to ride in. Speed and torque are limited (6 mph), allowing riders to learn the scooter before stepping up to the next level.
- Eco Mode: A comfortable riding mode that gets riders to where they need to go while prioritizing efficient motor operation and battery savings.
- Sport Mode: The fastest mode a rider can travel in, unlocking speeds of up to 18 mph, with the highest torque settings.
As a note, the Sport Mode speed can be manually adjusted to adhere to city-specific legislation and guidelines.

In addition to three different riding modes, the scooter also comes equipped with cruise control.
This is a very helpful features when going long distances.
I tried riding this scooter on sidewalks, streets, gravel, grass, and dirt.
I noticed that the scooter achieved maximum performance on city streets with solid pavement, but was not necessarily ideal for off-road environments.
I am 200 pounds even, so I am not exactly a small rider. However, the weight didn’t seem to be an issue for the single motor in most cases.
The motor did a good job of powering up hills with a small grade – around 5% – but did start struggling a little when the grade appeared to be between the 10-15% range.
It’s worth noting that the scooter slowed down at that grade, but could still get up the hill just find. It was just a little slower and I noticed a slight drop in performance.
When riding around on this scooter, I never once did not feel comfortable or unsafe.
Not only was the ride nice, but it also felt safe due to the disc brake controlled by a hand lever on the handlebars, and a second rear-stop foot brake on the back.
When I hit the brakes, the scooter slowed down with ease.
Additionally, it also seemed like there was some type of regenerative braking mechanism engaging when I applied slight pressure to the hand brake.
Aside from the redundant braking systems, the scooter also comes equipped with a forward-facing LED headlight and a bell attached to the handlebars.
The light wasn’t as bright as I would have liked it to be, but for all intents and purposes, it worked just fine.
I ride my bicycle a lot at night, with dual 1,600-lumen torches on the my handlebars.
So compared to those, almost any other type of light source seems pretty dull, so my thoughts on the light is probably not a fair comparison.
As for the bell, it worked like you’d expect a bell to work. The button to engage the little metal piece that hits the bell was a bit hard to pull back, but I would expect with a few uses it would loosen up and be easier to pull over time.
I rode this scooter around for testing purposed, and as a result, I did not exceed a distance of 10 miles when doing so.
In that time, the battery held up well and I did not notice a decrease in performance during any of my testing.
I plugged the scooter in when I got home, and the battery has held up since I unplugged it once complete.
In my limited experience, it does seem like the battery holds up against the company’s claims that it will last for 20 miles.
Conclusion: Is the LevyPlus Electric Scooter Worth It?
As you can clearly see from our LevyPlus electric scooter review, this is a quality product at an affordable price point.
It’s great for environments with flat surfaces and low-grade hills, but probably not the best option for off-roading.
Off-road scooters are an entirely different category of their own, with the best off-road scooters being designed specifically for that singular purpose.
They’re bulky, heavy, and not compact. This scooter, however, is designed for portability, storage, and overall ease of use.
If you’re using a daily scooter to get around, this is definitely worth trying out.
