Want to Make Your Electric Scooter Go Faster? Here are a Few Speedy Tips!

Have you ever wondered why many use the electric scooter as a fun way of moving around from one place to another? There are plenty of reasons that make this mode of traveling a favorite of many.

First, unlike the regular motorcycle or car, you don’t have to acquire a driving license to operate it. Yay! You just need a helmet or some other protective wear, and Voila! You are good to go! Yes, if you want an economical ride that’s fun and relatively simple, get an electric scooter, and off you go! over, if you employ the right tips, you can make your electric scooter go really fast.

But the question is: How fast can electric scooters actually go? And is there anything you can do to increase the speed of your electric scooter? That’s precisely what we’d like to find out. Let’s jump right in!

The Simple Tips to Increase Your Electric Scooter’s Speed

If you want to increase your electric scooter’s speed, here’s what to do:

First, Remove the Scooter’s Speed Limiter

Remarkably, your electric scooter is capable of reaching a much higher top speed than you can imagine; it’s just that you’re probably unaware! Why is this the case? Simple: An electric scooter comes with an inbuilt embedded (and hidden) speed limiter. Many find this intriguing; why should the gadget be so discreetly fixed into the system? What’s its function? Why is it there?

Well, it’s good to know; the electric scooter’s manufacturer fixed this speed limiter because most countries have made laws prohibiting these machines from reaching a higher limit. This means that the speed limiter exists to prevent the machine from going to the limit. Hence, if you want to run the full speed, the solution is also simple; remove the in-built speed limiter.

Keep in mind that each scooter is essentially different. You, therefore, need to use different methods to achieve this. Overall, if your scooter uses a DC type of driving motor, just locate the sensor on the driving wheel’s transmission system. This small device shows how fast the driving wheel is rotating; it then signals the processor to limit the scooter from reaching the maximum speed.

You need to understand how the speed restriction system works. First, your scooter has sensors that control the cumulative speed of the pedals and drive. The speed limiters are generally regulated by in-built motor computer and electronic sensors. The signals are subsequently sent to the computer, limiting the motor’s output and keeping the machine traveling at a lower speed.

In short, we must confuse the computer to sense that we are traveling at a lower speed while we’re actually traveling at a higher speed. How do you do that? Put an electronic device between the sensor and the computer. Alternatively, alter the magnet in the sensor. This prevents the sensor from reading the actual speed; yes, it generates a false reading. Thus, when you are traveling at a higher speed, the sensor reads that you’re moving at a lower speed. In this way, the speed restriction is stopped, and your scooter will travel at maximum speed. This is how you can make your electric scooter move faster.

You’re at great risk of getting hurt when you remove your scooter’s speed limiter. over, the machine’s battery will drain faster. Generally, if your scooter is designed with a DC brushless motor, it typically achieves its speed limit through the oscillator. To remove it, you must get deep into the software.

Modify the Firmware

There are scooters whose original firmware has been modified by other users. Download the modified version-this will increase the scooter’s speed. When the motor’s constant power is increased, it usually gets more torque and higher speed.

Be cautious – if you live in a hot area, you should carefully monitor your scooter’s temperature using an app. Once you increase the constant power of the motor, the scooter’s temperature will increase. This can present a problem during summer, particularly if you push the scooter to its limits on steeper slopes.

Upgrade the Existing Battery

It is the battery as well as the motor power which determine how fast the scooter will go. These batteries are usually available in 24-48 volts. The voltage differs from one model to another. Nevertheless, the 24-volt battery is commonly used in most units. You only need to replace the current battery with a better version. Indeed, if you want a stronger charge that will help you push the vehicle to the maximum speed, you should ensure you have a powerful battery.

You must be cautious, however. This is a complicated process that could make or break your scooter in case something goes wrong. Why? Once the battery is replaced, you may not know whether the scooter’s speed will actually increase or if the machine will simply get burnt. If you replace a 24-volt battery with a 48-volt, you may cause the controller to overload. This might end up burning your prized scooter! Instead of increasing its speed, you’ll ultimately destroy the machine!

What’s the solution? Just connect the battery to the motor and remove the controller. Alternatively, re-program your device to feed the engine with a larger voltage. Again, be careful. Unless you employ some technical skills, you can lose your scooter while trying to make it faster.

Add Another Battery

Have you noticed that your scooter often moves faster at the start of the ride than during the ride itself? This happens when the machine’s battery is depleted. It is a normal process.

joyor, electric, scooters, scooter

The solution to this is simple: Just add an extra battery, and you’ll maintain a higher scooter speed for a long time. Certain scooter models even come with a slot for an extra battery.

If this is the case, you merely need to connect the two batteries to have the machine powered with immense capacity. Compared to the previous option, this is much safer. Rather than messing up with the battery, you’ll be powering the vehicle by adding another energy source.

Note that there are a few disadvantages. For one, the scooter could become heavier and less moveable when you try to carry it. It will also take longer to reach a full charge.

Add Two Batteries

You can have your scooter running faster and covering longer distances without a recharge by adding two more batteries to the existing battery. But this will be trickier to achieve. Yes, it will be more difficult to connect the three batteries together. The scooter will also become heavier, and the suspension area will be overworked. Think twice before taking this option.

Change the Sprockets

If you want to achieve more miles per hour, try this: Alter the sprocket’s size. How? Change the front sprockets to become longer and the shorter sprockets at the rear. This simple trick will increase the machine’s speed. over, since you can buy the sprockets cheaply, you’ll do this without spending much. You, however, need some technical knowledge to do this without calling for assistance.

Rewind the Motor

Rewinding the motor can be beneficial whenever the motor overheats. When there’s overheating, the coils usually become shorter. For better torque, you have to increase the windings. Once the motor coil windings are reduced, it also reduces the torque and turns it to a higher RPM. Since this method is highly effective in increasing electric scooter speeds, many riders usually use it.

Be careful! The procedure for doing this is a bit complicated. You might therefore need to hire a technician. Unless you do so, you can make a costly mistake by triggering series of shortcuts that endanger your scooter. Yes, spend a little money to hire a professional-in the end, this will save your machine!

How Fast Can an Electric Scooter for Adults Speed?

Electric scooters made for adults usually go at a speed limit of 20 mph or 32 km/h top speed. This is the limit when traveling on a bike lane. Nevertheless, some modern scooters can hit 30 mph (the maximum speed for a chair-less electric scooter). To do the 30 mph, you must buy a bike that resembles the gas-powered scooter. These come with a seat and a frame to rest the feet.

How Much Can Electric Scooter for Children Speed?

For children’s electric scooters, the average is 15 mph or 24 km/h. The highest speed while traveling on a single charge is 18 mph or 28 km/h. To reduce accidents, electric scooters’ manufacturers have greatly limited the speed of children’s bikes. Also, most US states have laws that prohibit such bikes from moving at higher speeds.

Is a 15 Mph (Speed) Too Fast for an Electric Scooter?

It’s easy for an adult to control an electric scooter traveling at 15 mph. Even older teens- between 16 to 19 years-can usually do so. However, note that tens generally love to ride faster- simply for enjoyment. It’s, therefore, essential for parents to be careful when choosing a bike for the kids.

How to Determine the Electric Scooter’s Speed by Battery and Motor Power

Since electric scooters are classified as plug-in vehicles, they have their electric power stored on a rechargeable battery. This powers the motor which, in turn, speeds up the scooter. These components determine the overall electric speed.

Here are the recommended electric scooter motor power parameters:

  • For 6-9-year-old kids- 90 to 120 watts: The average is 6 mph, and the maximum is 5 to 7.5 mph.
  • 10-12 years- 250 watts: The average speed is 10 mph, and the maximum is 15 mph.
  • 13 to 14 years- 250-350 watts: The average speed is 15 mph, and the maximum is 18 mph.
  • 15 to 16 years-350 to 500 watts: This is also ideal for under 90 kg adults. The average is 18 mph, and the maximum is 20 mph.
  • Adults- 500 watts and above: The average is 20-25 mph, and the maximum is 28-30 mph.

Here are the General Factors that Determine How Fast Your Bike Will Speed:

The Rider’s Weight

The scooter’s motor and battery generally work harder to fire the machine to maximum speed if the rider is heavy. Check the recommended weight limit when buying.

Tire Pressure

Check the tire pressure, especially if your scooter has pneumatic tires. This is because tires that are too soft will obviously impact the scooter’s range and speed. Such tires will also fail to absorb shock when traveling on rougher terrain.

Battery Capacity

Larger capacity batteries generally store more charge. They, thus, come with extended range capability.

Type of Terrain

The best setting for electric scooters is usually on urban roads. This is because the roads typically have smooth surfaces. over, if there are hills, they’re usually less steep. But think about the rural dirt road. The scooter will travel more slowly there because the tires sink to the ground. Of course, the bumps and lumps will similarly affect the machine’s speed.

Enjoy the Benefits of Faster Electric Scooters

There are benefits to using an electric scooter. Compared to the regular bike, you don’t need to park it. You can even walk with it right into the shopping mall! This is truly a lovely way to travel. over, electric scooters are some of the cheapest means of transport. The cost of maintenance is generally minimal. Ultimately, it uses one of the simplest forms of power- electricity.

Final Thoughts

It can be a most thrilling experience when you finally hit the top speed when riding your favorite electric scooter. Be careful, however. To prevent accidents, you must train yourself adequately on standard safety procedures.

For instance, try riding on streets or lanes that have fewer pedestrians and motor traffic. This will help you gain confidence when riding in the busier city streets.

Maintain a 20 mph speed limit on city streets and bike lanes. Wear a helmet and other protective gear. It keeps you safe. Yes, use the tips above to remain safe while enjoying a ride on your favorite electric scooter.
