Here’s Everything We Know About The 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen
Visual cues for this bike are borrowed from previous Husqvarna models, and emphasis on travel is expected to shift more to off-roading.
Husqvarna is a lesser-known motorcycle manufacturer that is currently developing motorcycles. After beginning their company with military production, they went on to enter the automotive field, creating beginner bikes, futuristic-looking bikes, and electric bikes. Their latest project, the 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen, is due to arrive next year, complete with a battery pack that should increase travel range and mileage.
Visual cues for this bike are also borrowed from previous Husqvarna models, and emphasis on travel is expected to shift more to off-roading. However, a lot of information is still unreleased, as the bike has not begun official manufacturing, and it hasn’t even hit the sales floor.
That said, some of the information on the 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen has been released, including appearance, a few specs, and concept sketches; read on to discover more about those points in detail.
Powerpack Imminent
The 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen is expected to come with a power pack for the battery. While the bike was being developed, the manufacturers decided to factor in travel range at the same level of importance as performance.
Given that the Husqvarna E-Pilen electric bike, it made logical sense that travel range could be boosted with the addition of a high-voltage battery pack. Doing so would also cater to customer demands for larger mileage on electric bikes. Husqvarna noted how commercially feasible a low-voltage 48V 15 kW ‘powerpack’ would be for their bikes, and so they began adding it immediately.
Usually, a high-voltage battery pack would compromise the profitability, as the bike would become denser with the battery pack. So while the aforementioned battery pack isn’t the highest-voltage available, it’s a compromise between high voltage and low density in order to maintain a level of profitability. If successful upon the bike’s launch in 2022, then the powerpack will go on to support multiple products using this platform.
Expect Similarities To Previous Bikes
This model takes its cues from previous motorcycle models, and it does so in a not-so-subtle way. This was first realized when concept sketches were sent to investors, who noted the similarities.
The 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen shares proportions with the Husqvarna Svartpilen and Husqvarna Vitpilen twins, albeit with slightly modified styling in the details. For example, green highlights adorn the alloy wheels and electrical compartment, as well as on other places in the bike. Also notable is the planned capacity for the bike to have its battery swapped out, thanks to its modular battery system.
Motors available for this model are planned to be 4 kW and 10 kW motors, suggesting evidence that the 4 kW motor is a recycled design from Bajaj Auto’s Chetak electric scooter. Also suggested by this feature is the possibility of the 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen being an economy model, especially when compared to other similar bikes.
The 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen, Vitpilen 250, Svartpilen 250, Vitpilen 401, and Svartpilen 401 all relocated production to India, joining other models that have always been made there.
It’s An All-Electric Line
The Husqvarna E-Pilen was intentionally named and designed as a whole line of all-electric motorcycles. These street bikes are styled after the Svartpilen and Vitpilen line, due for arrival hopefully in the latter half of 2022.
The concept was first mentioned in an early 2020 investor report, with the aforementioned modular battery system and 4 kW or 10 kW electric motor both part of the plan from the concept’s inception.
That said, a lot of designs and features for this concept are not final yet, as production has not fully begun, a lot of time remains before projected arrival for modifications, and too many key, significant details have yet to be released. And although released sketches may reveal the intended idea for the E-Pilen‘s design, that too may be modified prior to release.
Going Off-Road
These models were also made primarily with off-roading in mind. The E-Pilen and its sister bikes emphasize off-roading, which is one trait all these bikes have in common.
Husqvarna E-Pilen is expected to undergo production by late this year with a launch aimed at end 2021 or early 2022
With every other OEM venturing into electric mobility space, we often get to witness new designs and advent of some new technology even if it’s minuscule. The latest manufacturer is Husqvarna who plans to enter the emission-free auto world with the production version of E-Pilen Concept revealed recently.
Based on the unique and pioneering design of successful twins- Svartpilen and Vitpilen, E-Pilen Concept is the Swedish bikemaker’s first step into urban electric mobility. The company has ensured that the production-spec electric motorcycle will bear stark resemblances to the concept version showcased.
Modern Design
The progressive design philosophy of Svartpilen and Vitpilen has been carried forward to the electric bike which features some distinct styling elements such as an exposed trellis frame, wide handlebars, a compact fuel tank and a round headlamp.
While a light paint scheme has been carried forward from Vitpilen, the tank rack has been inspired by Svartpilen. Other design elements included are inverted forks, mono-shock at rear, and a gullwing swingarm.
Expected Powertrain Specs
It should be pointed out that the fuel tank houses the electric battery setup. The battery supplies energy to an electric motor with a rated capacity of 8kW (10.73 bhp). Although exact details of the powertrain are yet to be revealed, the company claims a modest range of 100km on a single charge. However, Husqvarna has assured that it will address the range anxiety issues of consumers by equipping E-Pilen with swappable batteries featuring a modular system.
Official statement from the company read as “It has always been the aim of Husqvarna Motorcycles to develop new products accessible to the broadest possible spectrum of riders. The E-mobility range will retain and continue the riding pleasure and dynamics refined through the long history and experience of the brand.”
Details
details regarding E-Pilen will be revealed as the electric motorcycle nears its final production-spec version. Husqvarna’s Austrian cousin KTM has already ventured into electric mobility space with 5 kW SX-E and 16 kW Freeride E. If E-Pilen indeed undergoes production it can also pave the path for electric KTM Dukes. Motorcycles of both brands are manufactured at Bajaj’s manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune, Maharashtra.
In fact, Bajaj and KTM have been working together on a common electric platform that will underpin products ranging from 3kW to 10kW electric motors using a 48V electric system. Also, it was reported a couple of months back that KTM and Husqvarna are developing an all-new electric scooter as well which will be based on Bajaj Chetak Electric. We can expect E-Pilen to be launched late this year or early next year.

Husqvarna lead the charge towards swappable batteries for bikes
Electric bikes have been meandering towards the mainstream for years but Husqvarna’s upcoming E-Pilen could be the first proper motorcycle to adopt a new standard for swappable batteries.
That’s a big deal because the ability to change instead of charge a bike’s batteries means refuelling stops turn from hours-long inconveniences to tasks that take seconds – quicker, cleaner and cheaper than refilling a petrol bike’s tank.

That leads to a beneficial circle: fast, painless refills eliminate ‘range anxiety’, allowing manufacturers to make shorter-range electric bikes with smaller, lighter battery packs, which in turn makes the bike quicker and more manoeuvrable.
The E-Pilen, a near-production concept, is the first fruit of a joint effort between Husky’s parent firm, Pierer Mobility, and its partner and shareholder Bajaj to create a whole range of electric vehicles from 4kW to 11kW (5hp to 15hp) around a standardised 48-volt lithium-ion battery.
Both the 48-volt construction and the apparent size and shape of the E-Pilen’s three battery packs are close to those used in Honda’s first production electric bikes, the PCX Electric – leased in small numbers in Asia – and the commercially-targeted Benly-e and Gyro-e models.
Honda are in a consortium with Husky’s sister firm KTM, along with Piaggio and Yamaha to establish a set of common standards for swappable motorcycle batteries in Europe.
Honda have already established a set of standards in a separate Japanese consortium alongside Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. So it makes sense for KTM – and therefore Husqvarna – to be using batteries that match these specs.
International standardisation, which is something that the electric car industry has failed to achieve, could allow bikes to leapfrog cars in the race to electrification. The specs set by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM and Piaggio – presuming both the Japanese and European consortia agree on the same standards – will effectively create the ‘AA’ battery of motorcycles, widely available and usable across a host of different products.
Honda are even planning lawnmowers and quad bikes based on the same unit. As an added benefit, the cells can easily be taken indoors to charge at home, which is useful for people with no off-road parking.
The E-Pilen – which will also surely appear with different styling as an electric KTM – has three 48v packs for a total 144v, driving an 8kW (10.7hp) motor. A 4kW scooter is also planned.
Husqvarna E-Pilen concept explored:
Shared DNA The E-Pilen’s frame, suspension, wheels, brakes and swingarm are all shared with the next-generation KTM 125, 250 and 390 Duke models, which have already been spied in near-finished form.
Slots right in The E-Pilen’s three 48-volt batteries slot diagonally into a box where the ‘tank’ would normally be, sliding down between the frame.
Keeping it safe As well as sharing standardised voltages, dimensions, connectors and charging rates, swappable bike batteries need to be waterproof and shockproof.
Pokier than a 125 Although 8kW (11.7hp) doesn’t sound like much, that will be the bike’s ‘continuous’ power rating. For short bursts, it’s likely to have significantly more power on tap, giving higher performance than a 125cc petrol engine while still being legal for L-plate use.
Rapid swap stops While the E-Pilen’s 62-mile range might sound short, the convenience of quickly swapping batteries rather than waiting for them to recharge should more than compensate. Swappable batteries also mean range could improve in the future as battery tech advances.
Husqvarna E-Pilen concept unveiled: Electric urban mobility with style

Husqvarna have become the latest manufacturer to join the electric motorbike market with a new model concept called the E-Pilen. The bike has a 125-rivalling 10.7bhp and a range of 62 miles, putting it in the same urban mobility category as machines like the Super Soco TC Max.
Looks-wise, the E-Pilen would sit comfortably beside its petrol stablemates, the Svartpilen and Vitpilen models with the same angular “tank”, five-spoke wheels, retro styling cues like the single round headlight and a chopped rear end.
Husqvarna have also said that they are keeping an open mind about constantly-evolving battery tech and as such the E-Pilen features a swappable battery that can simply be replaced with a fully charged item when needed.

That would make sense given that sister company, KTM announced their commitment to a battery standardisation consortium with Honda, Piaggio and Yamaha at the start of 2021.
