Our test on flat terrain managed to get 0 to 15 miles per hour in merely 6.3 seconds. Comparing it with other electric scooters in this range, this is almost 2-3 seconds faster on average.
Xiaomi Mi 365 electric scooter can reach 15.5 miles per hour top speed, impressive on the highest performance mode. You can even increase the speed more using the firmware manipulation that we have explained below.
Riding on the slopes is not a big issue for Xiaomi M365 if the slope is under 10 degrees. Remember that this is an entry-level electric scooter, and getting a good speed till a 10-degree incline is a reasonably good trade. If your scooter slows down, then you can assist the ride with kicking. However, kick-starting is not easy, especially for kids at the start.

Mi 365 is not the scooter you would like to take off-road as it lacks a suspension system. But during our testing, we have felt that pneumatic tires well replace the suspension system. These tires absorb the road bumps very well and provide enough cushioning to replicate the effect of the suspension system.
The air-filled tire can perform excellently on urban roads and relatively smooth terrains, but running on rough areas can be drastic. The absence of a suspension system and lower deck height can pose issues when riding Xiaomi Mi M365 electric scooter on ledges and small rocks.
Brakes System:
The redundant brake system on Xiaomi Mi m365 electric scooter is impressive. It consists of one rear disc brake and a front regenerative brake that, in combination, provides reasonable control over the speed. Our Verdict
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter is expensive and not allowed on UK roads out the box, but if you have somewhere to take it this toy is an awful lot of fun. It’s fast, smooth and almost entirely silent, with a battery that just keeps on going and decent brakes that stop you quickly but safely. This scooter is best reserved for the big kids, but that’s no bad thing.

Mi Electric Scooter: Price UK Availability
Our review sample came from GearBest, which has the lowest for the Xiaomi M365. At the time of writing it’s available there for the discounted price of £333.20, and shipping from Europe will incur no import duty.
If you’d rather buy from a UK stockist you will typically pay the retail price of £399.99, although Scootered is offering a discounted price of £370 and Box currently has it at £349. You’ll find the M365 available through Pure Scooters and Xiaomi itself. Xiaomi also has a store in London’s Westfield shopping centre.
There’s now a new model, the M365 Pro. It looks the same, but is slightly larger, has a more powerful motor (for better uphill performance) and a much bigger battery for a huge 45km range. It also costs a lot more at £498.99 (though you’ll also find it cheaper at GearBest).
Mi Electric Scooter: What it is, what it does
This is not your average child’s electric scooter, as you can probably tell from the price tag. In fact, it’s really not ideal for children at all, because it stands 114cm high and is not height-adjustable (our eight-year-old could just about get on with it but smaller children will not). It’s also pretty heavy at 12.5kg, even though it’s built from aircraft-grade aluminium and quickly folds up for easier transportation, and it goes very fast. A little bit too fast for little kids.
Most electric scooters these days look like plasticky, bulkier versions of the old-school scooters with which we’re all familiar, and they can be pretty noisy. Kids reach speeds usually between around 8mph and 14mph, but with little control over their acceleration (or much else, it would often appear).
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter is more refined. It can travel up to 30km (nearly 20 miles, but the exact distance depends on how fast you go), and at up to 25km/hour (nearly 16 miles an hour). It does so almost completely silently, too.
A mobile app lets you track everything from the remaining battery life and distance to your average speed and controls for acceleration and cruise control.
Yep, cruise control. On an electric scooter. This one also has a kinetic energy recovery system and disk brakes (on the rear – at the front is an E-ABS braking system), which can shorten braking distance to just 4m.
Plus there’s a headlight and flashing rear brake light. The headlight is powerful enough to actually see where you’re going at night, too. Bonus.
Large 8.5in inflatable tyres mean the Xiaomi Electric Scooter can handle some offroading, and certainly low- to medium drop kerbs (but be careful). importantly, it feels very stable in use, and you quickly get used to cornering and getting up speed.
A high-capacity 18,650mAh (280Wh) battery means it’s unlikely to run out of juice mid-play or halfway to your destination. When it comes to recharging we found it achieved roughly 20 percent per hour, so should fully charge from empty in five- to six hours. You’ll just need an adaptor for the two-pin plug, which GearBest will be able to provide on request.
Mi Electric Scooter: In Action
Everyone who tried this scooter wanted to take it home with them. It really is the toy that lets adults be kids again, and to do so in style.
As we mentioned we were very impressed with the speed and stability of the scooter, but we also liked how easy it was to put together and get going. Our only gripe here is it was missing two screws in the box to hold the handlebars to the main column, and we’re not sure they were actually there to begin with given that the box was very well sealed.
To start using the scooter you press the power button on top, which activates four LEDs that show you remaining battery capacity, and pull up the small kickstand. The scooter needs to be moving before the motor will kick in, so give it a push and then pull down the lever on the right handlebar.
How far you push down this lever controls how quickly you accelerate, though you’ll also find you can change the acceleration mode in the app settings. Three are available, though we didn’t notice an obvious difference between them.
On the other handlebar you’ll find a brake lever and a bell, with the latter also used to hold down the handlebars in the scooter’s folded position. Folding the Xiaomi takes just seconds, but while this makes storing the scooter much easier we wouldn’t want to carry it too far like this.
It’s built from a very premium-looking lightweight aluminium, but even so the battery and motor mean it weighs in at a hefty 12.5kg. At 108x43x49cm folded it’s still quite bulky, too.
There’s very little about the design that we can fault. Locking it up might prove difficult, though you could loop a chain through the rear wheel, and ideally you’ll want some sort of phone mount or holder to make proper use of the app.
We weren’t confident enough in our testing to take one hand off the handlebars to pull out our phone and check the speed, so we had one person on the scooter and one with the phone. The drawback of this is you need to stay within Bluetooth range, giving you less distance to build up speed. Nevertheless, we managed to record 16.2mph from the Xiaomi.
(In this situation, integration with Android Wear would be very handy, though there’s nothing stopping you using a Speedometer app with your smartwatch.)
The MiHome app itself isn’t the easiest to use for UK users. We originally selected US as the locale since it was the only English language in the list, but then discovered several features were missing and found it impossible to link the scooter to our Xiaomi account. We recommend you select Mainland China instead.
Actually, scrap that. We recommend you ditch MiHome and download Ninebot. It connects much faster and gives you access to all the same features. Both apps are free from Google Play. The dashboard is prettier, too.
Mi Electric Scooter: UK law
Before you rush out and buy an electric scooter you should know that electric scooters – kick-scooters that also build in a low-power motor – are classified as PLEVs, or Personal Light Electric Vehicles. They are not subject to taxes or registration, but neither are they legal for use anywhere other than private land in the UK.
That said, if you are riding an electric scooter responsibly and showing due care to pedestrians and road users, we find it unlikely that you will be pulled over by the police.
Our best advice is to stick to private land as much as you can (where you’ll also be safer), and to enlist a healthy dose of common sense at all times. If you’re going to use an electric scooter irresponsibly, expect to be pulled up on it.

There’s a new iconic electric scooter in town and it’s called the Xiaomi Pro 2. Is it any better than the incredibly popular Xiaomi M365 Pro it essentially replaces? Also called the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 – and having dropped the ‘365’ moniker – this upgrade to its electric scooter range by Chinese company Xiaomi (pronounced ‘shau mee’), went on sale in July 2020.
It’s an update to the Xiaomi M365 Pro, which originally came out in late 2019 as an upgrade to the original Xiaomi M365, so both are relatively new electric scooters; both have colour displays, regenerative dual braking systems and can be folded up for easy storage. So what’s the difference between the Xiaomi M365 Pro and the Xiaomi Pro 2?
There’s a lot to like about both of them, but if you’re after one of the best budget electric scooters available there are some convincing reasons to stick with the older model. Let’s take a look at how Xiaomi’s electric scooters compare so you can see which one is the best electric scooter for you.
Xiaomi M365 Pro vs Xiaomi Pro 2: Design
Both are foldable electric scooters with an IP54 rating, which essentially means that they’re ‘splash-proof’. That’s going to concern most Brits, though in lieu of a proper waterproof model these should be generally fine to be used in the outdoors, but take care in downpours.
At 108x43x114 cm and 108x43x49 cm folded-up, the Xiaomi Pro 2 is a tiny bit smaller than the Xiaomi M365 Pro, which measures 113x43x118 cm and 13x43x49 cm, though they have an almost identical chassis that weighs 14.2kg. That’s a few kilos more than the original Xiaomi M365.
Perhaps the biggest upgrade on the Xiaomi Pro 2 is its tweaked rear fender support. It adds more stability and should prevent any breakages from riders accidentally standing on the mudguard.
Another key upgrade is the tyres. A big issue with owners of electric scooters is punctures, so on its newer model Xiaomi has sought to reduce the chances by using tougher air-filled tyres that promise more grip.
Both have an identical colour display. Design-wise there are also a few other subtle differences, such as a red ring on the front wheel that’s not an important feature … but it does look rather flash.
So while there are a lot of similarities between the two, there are a few ways where the Xiaomi Pro 2 differs from the Xiaomi M365 Pro.
Xiaomi M365 Pro vs Xiaomi Pro 2: Features
At 15.5 mph, both the Xiaomi M365 Pro and Xiaomi Pro 2 have an identical top speed and range. Clocking-in at a maximum of 28 miles/45 km on one charge, both electric scooters are built on the same chassis, with a 300W electric motor and a 12.8Ah battery. Despite those identical specs, the Xiaomi Pro 2 does have a slightly newer, faster battery that can be recharged a shade more quickly, and should also last a little longer in the long-term. However, that’s a very incremental change that we’re not convinced is worth shelling out extra cash for.
The Xiaomi Pro 2 and Xiaomi M365 Pro have an identical dashboard-style colour display that’s bright enough to be read by a rider even in sunny conditions. That display relates data on the rider’s current top speed, the battery level – presented as a percentage, which is very handy – and what mode the scooter is in; standard, pedestrian or sport. Only the latter permits top speed. Both scooters also feature cruise control, which allows the rider to take their thumb off the accelerator on right-hand handlebar, if, for example, there’s a long empty stretch to travel. Both versions include E-ABS brakes and 8.5-inch pneumatic shock-absorbing tyres.
However, when it comes to safety the Xiaomi Pro 2 takes things a little more seriously, with a series of yellow reflectors on the front, rear and sides.
Although the provision of a display makes a smartphone app less useful (it was a way of replicating a dashboard on the original Xiaomi M365 Pro), the Mi Home app does also include a remote locking system that locks the scooter’s brakes. It also presents statistics galore about your own speed and distance travelled.
Xiaomi M365 Pro vs Xiaomi Pro 2: Performance
If the features are little more than refined on the Xiaomi Pro 2 compared to the Xiaomi M365 Pro, the same goes for performance. Both have a reasonably long base plate that makes them easy to control, and though which mode you use will depend on your weight and the terrain in the area you’re going to ride your electric scooter, both have plenty of power.
That upgraded fender makes it less likely you’ll step on, and damage, the mudguard, but there’s also something else we noticed back there. Anyone who has riden the Xiaomi M365 or the Xiaomi M365 Pro will know about the rattle of the mudguard as when you ride over anything remotely challenging. On the Xiaomi Pro 2 the mudguard is also more solidly attached to the base plate, which makes it rattle around far less during a ride.
Unfortunately, nor the Xiaomi M365 Pro nor the Xiaomi Pro 2 have any kind of suspension, which would make riding its electric scooters much more comfortable. In its place are pneumatic tyres, which in practice introduce a little ‘give’, and make them rideable over bumpy terrain.
Although both versions include bright LED headlights and rear-lights, the Xiaomi Pro 2 adds an upgraded 2W headlight that illuminates up to 10m ahead. It also points more at the road so is less dazzling to oncoming traffic.
Xiaomi M365 Pro vs Xiaomi Pro 2: Verdict
The newer Xiaomi Pro 2 does have a few extra safety features compared to the Xiaomi M365 Pro as well as a little extra longevity. The addition of extra reflectors and a more powerful headlight are welcome upgrades, but they’re incremental. So too the addition of a new battery that knocks-off 30 minutes of recharge time and could see the Xiaomi Pro 2’s battery have a slightly longer shelf-life.
We’re not convinced that the Xiaomi Pro 2 is worth upgrading to if you’re already riding the Xiaomi M365 Pro. However, if you’ve got the original Xiaomi M365 and you’re looking for a faster, more powerful electric scooter with a longer range and lots of small safety advances, look no further than the Xiaomi Pro 2 – the new flagship from the world’s biggest electric scooter company.
