Our best Gotrax electric scooter reviews might have given you an idea about the features and safety they offer. It does have a moderate speed for kids while an excellent braking mechanism to keep the ride in control.
Gotrax G4 Electric Scooter (Heavy Motor)
Gotrax G4
Motor Power: 350W Top Speed: 20 MPH Travel Range: 25 miles Max Weight Capacity: 220 pounds Wheel Size: 10 inch Warranty: 90 days
Tired of the same old, boring way to commute? The G4 is your answer. This sleek commuter scooter offers an incredible top speed and excellent range scooter under 500 without sacrificing any striking features. You can cruise in style while saving money on gas. What could be better than that?
Speed and Acceleration
This GoTrax G4 scooter is the only one that breaks through the 15.5 mph speed barrier in its lineup, reaching a maximum pace of 20 mph. The 350W motor produces an ample level of torque for such a low-cost and environmentally friendly machine. It can also conquer hills with up to 15% incline grades.
Like its slimmer counterparts, the G4 is a kick-start scooter that starts with a little bit of kick action. This model can accelerate moderately and hold up well in tougher conditions like windy days or rough terrain. However, it’s not for beginner riders who don’t have the experience to balance high-speed scooters.
Battery and Range
The Gotrax electric scooter g4 is a great go-to for those looking to take on the trails. It’s not just its speed and comfort that sets this model apart, but also an improved battery boasting 25 miles of power on one single charge.
We found out the average travel range was around 17 miles during our tests while riding at top speed. You may expect more miles when traveling at economical speed like the jetson elctric scooter. It does much better than other Gotrax models in this department while taking only 5 hours to charge.
High Build Quality
The build quality never disappoints for Gotrax electric scooter g4 as it has aviation-grade aluminum alloy for frame construction. The architecture makes more sense for the reliable and robust build quality. Overall the streamlined and economic feel makes the G4 scooter worth your investment.
The deck and frame of the scooter go well with the fast pace of the G4 electric scooter. It has 10-inch pneumatic tires that support the ride and keeps it stable on all types of terrain. The scooter lacks suspension, but the tire’s shock absorption gives good protection against shocks on bumpy roads.
Gotrax G4 Portability
Despite having a 36 pounds weight, the Gotrax G4 electric scooter shows good portability. We faced no issues regarding lifting and taking the scooter for subway or storage. The folding mechanism is snappy that takes only 3 seconds to collapse and get into a compact form.
Unlike many competitors, the handlebars do not fold. However, this is not a big concern regarding the portability as the dimensions are compact enough to carry and store in a small space. Even if you have small hands, you can grip around the thin handlebar stem easily and carry it around.
Safety in Gotrax Scooter
Braking on the electric scooter is as important as speed, sturdiness, and range. G4 electric scooter by Gotrax does not disappoint in the braking department. It has a dual braking system that contains one regenerative brake while rear disc brake. However, the stopping power goes to the rear wheel from both brakes for adequate control.
Besides having dual braking, Gotrax G4 features notable security features. It has an inbuilt security feature that controls the locking mechanism of the ride. It controls the locking with a combination method which is good against theft attempts.
- Sturdy and reliable build quality
- Comfortable rides for urban travel
- Pneumatic tires are resistant against punctures due to slime filling
- Built-in locking mechanism with combination lock
- Rear tails light increase the visibility on the road
GoTrax XR Ultra Electric Scooter (Beginner Choice)
GoTrax XR Ultra
Motor Power: 300W Top Speed: 15.5 MPH Travel Range: 17 miles Max Weight Capacity: 220 pounds Wheel Size: 8.5 inch Warranty: 90 days
The Gotrax XR Ultra electric scooter is a boosted edition of the Gotrax GXL V2. With a 17 miles travel range and 15.5 miles per hour speed, it beats many competitors. The acceleration curve feels right at the spot, and the stopping power makes a good impression on the riders.
Speed and Acceleration
The manufacturer claims 15.5 miles per hour top speed for XR Ultra. This speed is pretty standard for an affordable electric scooter in this class. The figure, however, is not accurate as you can hit the top speed with intervals but getting the continuous top speed is not possible.
The XR Ultra is the perfect bike for beginners. The 300W motor and mediocre acceleration curve are precisely what a beginner needs to get started for electric scooter riding. It’s not thrilling for the steep hills but has the right speed and acceleration that you need for smooth terrain.
Battery and Range
GoTrax XR Ultra has a range of 16 miles as it features an LG battery. What does this mean for you? For starters, LG is one of the largest tech making batteries-the quality comes with no compromise. You can remain confident that you get reliable performance for many years without diminishing the battery power.
In addition to a battery that will last for years, the scooter has a battery management system. This system ensures the longevity of the battery life and prevents it from damage from overcharging. The best part is that you can have it fully charged in only 3 to 4 hours like a segway electric scooter.
Build Quality
The XR Ultra scooter contains a durable and robust aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, a material that can withstand wear and tear. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the most expensive electric scooters, but it contains essential ones.
It’s not only the frame and deck that show some impressive build quality in Gotrax XR Ultra. The LG Li-ion batteries are the most remarkable feature of this scooter. We have reviewed many electric scooters but seeing Li-ion batteries on a budget scooter is a rare sight.
Portability Feature
The Gotrax XR Ultra is not bulky enough to make the portability difficult. The lightweight design makes it easy to carry in hand with the help of a scooter backpack. You can ride the scooter to the subway or office and then fold it and carry it without having any issues as it fits perfectly well in the compact surfaces and car trunk.
The folding mechanism of XR Ultra is quite similar to the other Gotrax scooters. You can easily fold the scooter in a matter of seconds and by adjusting the safety pin. This pin comes with the purchase, and you don’t have to worry about getting it lost or having issues with the size adjustment.
Regenerative Braking in Safety
The braking system in XR Ultra is a combination of disc and regenerative brakes. There is a regenerative brake at the front, while a disc brake is present at the rear. The stopping power is good enough to handle the top speed with ease during the commute.
Besides the braking placement on the wheels, the operating is very easy. As the brake does work with the hands, it looks very natural, like a bicycle brake. There is a smoothness in operation, and applying the brake is quiet and spontaneous.
- Affordable electric scooter with premium features
- Dual braking on separate wheels
- LG Li-ion battery ensures long-lasting performance
- Lightweight aluminum is sturdy and durable
- Good travel range
Gotrax XR Elite
Motor Power: 300W Top Speed: 15.5 MPH Travel Range: 18.6 miles Max Weight Capacity: 220 pounds Wheel Size: 8.5 inch Warranty: 90 days
Gotrax XR Elite is a reliable and safe electric scooter. It is affordable and does the job of taking the rider from one place to the other in a fun way. The top speed of 15.5 miles per hour and the ability to conquer urban roads makes it ideal for scooter enthusiasts. Features like cruise control and impressive braking make XR Elite safe for the people who like more control over their rides.
Speed and Acceleration
Gotrax electric scooter elite has a 300W motor that can reach speeds up to 15.5 mph with ease and without too much effort on your part. However, you might not be able to maintain this speed in most places because of terrain or other factors like traffic intersections.
For most inner-city riders who use the scooter as a commuting vehicle or for fun urban exploration, 15.5 mph is enough. But experienced riders would prefer speeds of over 20 mph to make it worth their time and money. This top speed is nearest to the legal speed allowed in most places, making it the best choice for safe riding.
Battery and Range
The XR Elite is the ultimate way to get around town. With 18.6 miles of range and a max speed of 15.5 mph, you’ll be able to do everything from getting groceries at your favorite market back home without ever having to worry about charging repeatedly.
People who ride aggressively may found the travel range less than the claimed value. It happens because riding aggressively puts more stress on the motor and battery, resulting in faster charge consumption. You can charge the scooter in merely 3 hours to get back on the streets despite all this.
Build Quality
The XR Elite Scooter from GoTrax combines quality construction with affordability for an unforgettable riding experience. You’ll get your best bang for the buck on our high-performance machines that can withstand even those roughest rides down the dirt or paved paths alike.
Its wide anti-skid decks made of premium materials like aluminum alloy can take some wear and tear in stride while remaining lightweight. All these features related to reliability and durability make Gotrax electric scooter elite the best in its class.
Foldable and Portable
Folding the XR Elite is not tricky as it collapses to a compact form in a matter of seconds. You can store it under the desk, inside the car trunk, or in compact spaces due to its small and compact folded dimensions.
Similar to XR Ultra, the Elite also contains an additional locking pin. This pin ensures the safety and the locking system remains intact. Besides all this absence of foldable handlebars makes a big difference in portability.
Protective Safety Feat
The Gotrax XR Elite has a dual braking system for providing more control over the ride. The anti-lock electric braking and rear disc brake come as standard for making the ride more in control. The claimed stop distance measures 15 feet on the top speed, while the distance may vary depending on the road conditions and speed.
Besides the braking, another feature that helps to control the speed is cruise control. The XR Elite cruise control provides you a uniform speed while you enjoy the ride without the need to control the throttle.
- Detailed ride parameters on the LED display
- High-quality disc brakes
- Strongly built and reliable for adults
- The decent range for a budget electric scooter
- Impressive cruise control
Gotrax GXL V2
Motor Power: 250W Top Speed: 15.5 MPH Travel Range: 12.5 miles Max Weight Capacity: 220 pounds Wheel Size: 8.5 inch Warranty: 90 days
The Gotrax Electric Scooter GXL V2 is the best budget electric scooter for short journeys and features a sturdy build, decent top speed, and well-rounded rider comfort. It has everything you need to, and it outperforms its cheap price tag with a practical design that will get you from one location to other without worries.
Speed and Acceleration
Unlike its siblings, GXL V2 lacks zero starts and needs kick-starting to start the journey. If you are already familiar with kick-starting, you may know the drill of kicking the road for about 2 miles per hour to activate the motor. This feature is common in most budget scooters and is prevalent in many modern scooters.
Once you shift to the motor power, the 250W powerful motor takes the rest of the responsibility for carrying you around. It provides decent acceleration and a top speed of 15.5 miles per hour for a busy inner-city ride.
Battery and Range
The 36V battery of GXL V2 does provide 12.5 miles range on a single charge. The battery did a maximum of 10 miles on a full charge, showing its real-life performance in our tests. If you intend to use the scooter on maximum weight capacity, it will give around 7-8 miles range.
Gotrax has provided two riding modes in GXL V2 electric scooter to get the maximum benefit from the low mileage battery. The first mode ensures maximum riding distance by ensuring less top speed and keeping the ride economical. The second mode is quicker for speedy travel, but it drains the battery faster.
Fine Build Quality
Besides all the performance and features, the build quality amazed us the most in Gotrax Electric Scooter GXL V2. It does cost less, but the build quality is premium like many expensive ones. It utilizes an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy that ensures a weight capacity of 220 pounds for adults.
Some other features like pneumatic tires and sturdy construction make it stand out in the competition. The tires ensure that you do not feel many jolts on the bumpy drive and get a reliable ride on both rough and smooth terrains.
Portable Suitcase
The scooter is both light and easy to carry, making it a versatile travel companion. It folds neatly into the size of an average-sized suitcase or backpack so that you can take it on planes, trains, buses.
Folding the scooter is straightforward, involving some extra steps to avoid collapsing the frame during the ride. You need to manually unscrew the safety pin and then pull down the folding level near the base of the stem. It helps to collapse the handlebar and gives a compact shape to the scooter for carrying and storage.
Safety Feature
Gotrax never ceases to amaze us as it provides dual braking into a budget scooter which is a rare event. The disc brake at the rear and the regenerative brake at the front provide good stopping power to the scooter.
Another common feature that is not common in the budget electric scooter is cruise control. Gotrax GXL V2 features cruise control to maintain the constant speed of the scooter. You can engage the cruise control by holding down the throttle for 10 seconds and maintaining a stable speed.
- An excellent value for money
- Excellent braking mechanism with dual brakes
- Brilliant ride quality
- Build quality is impressive
- Cruise control offers hassle-free riding
Gotrax GKS
Motor Power: 150W Top Speed: 7.5 MPH Travel Range: 4 miles Max Weight Capacity: 154 pounds Wheel Size: 6 inch Warranty: 90 days
GKS Electric Scooter is one of the most exciting and famous electric scooters for kids by Gotrax. It has all the features you search for in a kid’s ride, like style, safety, and sturdiness. It is best suited for kids aged 6 years old but suitable for up to 8 years old.
Speed and Acceleration
The 150W motor on the GKS looks underpowered, but it’s perfect for the kids. It works in the safe speed limits for the kids and can reach a top speed of 7.5 miles per hour. It seems the slowest in the market except for few options, but this is the safe speed limit from a kid’s perspective.
This scooter’s low top speed is not a downside, as it’s Gotrax’s selling point. They seem to care for the kid’s safety and provide an entry-level scooter to help boost their confidence before riding the teens or adult electric scooters. Slow speeds prevent grazed knees from falling impacts.
Battery and Range
The Gotrax GKS electric scooter has a maximum range of 4 miles. This translates to 40 minutes, but the time depends on how quickly your throttle is and the type of terrain you are riding the scooter.

Some people may think the range to be low and not enough for their kid’s ride. But Gotrax focuses on safety, style, and affordability more than the speed and travel range. As it is an electric scooter destined for kids, the speed and range do not matter more than the safety.
Build Quality
The GoTrax GKS is a sturdy, reliable scooter that can stand up to the wear and tear of daily use. Although it does have waterproofing abilities, this is just basic protection, and there is no corrosion protection or warranty coverage for water-damaged electric scooters. So, it is better to stay indoors in rainy weather.
Overall, Gotrax GKS electric scooter is solid with a no-nonsense design approach. It does not have fancy mirrors, lights, and reflectors but provides a durable, dependable, and safe ride for the kids.
Portability (Not Foldable)
The GoTrax GKS is not a unit that will allow for easy storage. It won’t fold and lacks the qualities to be tossed in your trunk when you head out on vacation. It can only be stored safely at home or somewhere similar to a garage unless used often enough.

We think it’s important to remember the good things about this scooter because there are plenty of positives. For example, we should mention that even though it is not foldable, it weighs less than other models in its class.
Safety Concerns
The GKS doesn’t have any regenerative braking system. However, the foot brake will still stop you just as well when needed. The only downside is that there’s no handbrake, making it hard for younger children used to a hand-operated bicycle break.
Although the lack of a hand-operated brake makes it somewhat difficult to stop the scooter, the Gotrax’s Safety Start Technology helps. GKS deck has two buttons that sense the pressure and engage the motor. If you lift the foot off from these buttons, the motor disengages and slows down the scooter.
- Easy to assemble
- Durable and sturdy deck and frame
- Incredible Safety Start Technology
- Lightweight and easy to navigate

Gotrax Electric Scooters Purchasing Guide
The electric scooter is a great way to get around, but it’s hard to find the right one when there are many options. Luckily for you, we’ve done all of that work and compiled these best Gotrax electric scooter reviews. Our guide will help narrow down your choices and show what features are essential when picking out the finest Gotrax electric scooter.
Speed and Acceleration
Gotrax electric scooters have different speeds and acceleration depending on the electric scooter’s size, purpose, and price. Normally the electric for adults are more powerful and have an excellent top speed while kids electric scooter lacks the speed and acceleration for safety purpose.
So, keep in mind the purpose of buying the electric scooter. If you are looking for an adult scooter, you may prefer more speed and acceleration for going office or having fun riding on off-road terrain. For kids, you may want a safe ride that can do under 12 miles per hour.
Battery and Range
The range is one of the most important features to consider when buying an electric scooter. It’s not just about how far you’ll be able to go before needing a charge. It also depends on what type of terrain and road conditions you encounter during your travels.
If you use your e-scooter primarily for commuting or riding around town, the range might not matter as much. But if exploring rough off-road trails is more up your alley, make sure that whichever model scooter suits these needs has enough battery life.
Motor Power
It is a common perception that having more motor power is always better for the electric scooter. In some situations, it may suit the rider, but having a higher motor capacity may cost you extra, and you may never be able to utilize that motor power.
For example, for a kid’s electric scooter, any motor having 200W power is more than sufficient. In contrast, an adult scooter for urban traveling does not need more than 500W power, depending on the terrain. If you want to go off-road, you may look for an electric scooter with more than 1000W power.
Battery Type
The electric scooter comes with two types of batteries; Lithium-ion and sealed lead-acid batteries. Lead-acid batteries are bulky, have lower capacity, and takes hours to charge. But they are the go-to batteries for budget electric scooters.
Contrary to the sealed lead-acid batteries, Lithium-ion batteries are compact, charge quickly, and have better storage capacity. They cost more than lead-acid batteries. Therefore, they are usually present in high-end electric scooters. Choose wisely between both options when buying the electric scooter.
Size and Portability
Just like humans, the size and shape of the electric scooter vary from model. If you are a grown-up adult, you may prefer the electric scooter with a wide deck to accommodate you well during the commute. Similarly, for kids, you may seek for an adjustable handlebar to make it better to handle for the kid.
Likewise, portability is also dependent on the models and manufacturers. Some models have a folding mechanism that makes them fold in a compact size for easy carrying, while some lack this feature. Portability also depends on the weight of the electric scooter.
Before making any buying decision, keep in mind the nature of your travel and the flexibility that an electric scooter offers for portability. For kids, lightweight and a portable electric scooter is the best choice.
LED Display
Riding an electric scooter without any backlit or LED display can cost your time and money. You may be wondering how it can cost you? Well, to answer this, imagine riding the car without a fuel gauge. You may end up in the middle of nowhere with an empty fuel tank.
Similarly, an electric scooter requires an indicator for the remaining battery. A battery indicator or LED display shows the battery percentage and distance you can travel with the remaining battery. So, look for the scooter with a battery indicator or LED display to observe the stats in real-time.
Environmentally-Friendly
The environmental impact of transportation is a significant concern. Electric scooters are an excellent decision to be environmentally friendly and reduce emissions while cost-effective for those who need mobility. Still, they cannot afford other more expensive options such as cars or bikes.
You don’t only want to think about the eco-friendly benefits of going electric. You also need to make sure your scooter has recyclable batteries. After all, those powerhouses won’t last forever. When you notice that it’s time for recycling, be an ecologically responsible driver and bring them in. Choose an electric scooter that comes with recyclable batteries.
For What Kind of People Gotrax Electric Scooter is Suitable?
Gotrax electric scooters are popular among kids, teenagers, and adults due to their build quality and affordability. They are environment friendly due to no emissions and are better than fossil-powered vehicles.
For Kids (Gotrax G4)
What’s the best scooter for kids? Well, before you start shopping, it can be helpful to know what type of ride is perfect for your family. Knowing a little about this beforehand will help ensure you invest in something they’ll love and use often.
Gotrax electric scooter for kids has various models, but GKS tops the list. It has 7.5 miles per hour top speed and 4 miles travel range. The braking system ensures that your kid rides the scooter with complete control over the ride. You can rely on the build quality and safety features. You can learn more about it in Gotrax GKS electric scooter review.
For Teens and Adults
There are many models from Gotrax that are suitable for the teenager and adults. Most of them have decent speed, good battery life, extended range, and portability that you seek in the electric scooter. The dual braking and LED displays are features that you won’t see in budget scooters other than Gotrax.
One prime example is Gotrax G4 electric scooter. It comes with a ragging acceleration and top speed that will take you miles in few minutes. The battery life is decent that gives good mileage on a single charge.

20 GOTRAX XR Electric Scooter Review
GOTRAX has a new under-400 scooter coming to replace the very-reliable GXL V2. It’s called the XR and you can also have it in Ultra guise, with a more potent e-motor and larger battery pack. Its main rivals are the likes of Swagtron Swagger 5 (299), Xiaomi M365 (349), and Segway Ninebot ES2 (589). as you can see, pretty rough competition. We had a go at the GOTRAX XR and here’s what we can report.

GOTRAX XR. Design
Appearance is another high-point, mainly because the color scheme is a neat step forward from your usual matte white or matte black treatment. Plus, the throttle is easy to reach with your thumb, as is the brake lever. Everything feels solid while in motion and the whole experience is devoid of rattles or squeaks, which works both ways: it adds to the pleasure of riding the XR, but it also conveys a sense of extra safety, which is always nice to have.
The folding mechanism is similar to the one on the GXL V2, but it has been redesigned and reinforced, and it now comes with an additional safety pin that helps keep it locked while in use. The XR is also equipped with a kickstand, and since we mentioned safety, you also need to make yourself visible on a scooter when riding in low lighting conditions. With the XR range, that’s solved by the front headlight that sheds more than decent amounts of light in front of the scooter (so you don’t end up hitting an unwanted obstacle) but also, to some extent, by the reflective red patch mounted on the rear wheel cover.
For better visibility from the rear, though, you can invest in a rear light clip-on so drivers coming from behind you will get a visual heads-up sooner rather than later, with enough time to adjust the car’s speed or trajectory.
GOTRAX XR/XR Ultra Electric Scooter Specs
GOTRAX XR. Comfort and Practicality
Don’t raise your eyebrows, though; that’s expected for an e-scooter in this price bracket. That said, the two scooters are fitted with 8.5-inch pneumatic tires that handle the shock-absorbing task quite well, although they are susceptible to flats, just like your car’s tires.
However, you’re supposed to ride the scooter mostly on flat pavement or asphalt since its purpose is to serve last-mile trips. Therefore, unless you happen to work on a farm, getting from the subway station to the office and the other way around is done pretty swiftly. The wide board also helps, as it allows you to position your feet in a comfy position that will also keep you in full balance throughout the ride.
That’s small enough to allow storage in your compact car’s trunk and in case you don’t own a car, it still helps with carrying the scooter around in buses or trains. Plus, since the XR tips the scales at just under 27 pounds (that’s roughly 12 kilos, give or take), it’s relatively easy to pick up the scooter and haul it over one or two flights of stairs even if you don’t look like The Rock. Also, be aware that the kickstand is quite long, so make sure you’ve positioned the scooter in a stable parking position because otherwise, it might fall over to the other side.
Other than that, you’ll want to know that the handlebars don’t fold in and make sure you get a good grip on the scooter’s stem once it’s folded and ready to carry. The stem is quite thick and the brake cable runs along its full length, which makes it a less ideal surface to grab with your hand. But overall, using two hands should do the trick.
GOTRAX XR. Performance
So, for the GOTRAX XR, expect a max range of nine miles, and something in the region of 12 miles for the XR Ultra. The same pattern stands for top speed, too: reaching 15.5 mph requires a lot of space and a straight-line sprint, which are hard to come by in crowded cities, but the XR will take you to around 14.5-14.6 mph which is still pretty satisfactory, especially for an entry-level e-scooter.
While riding in the highest gear, expect to reach speeds around 13-14 mph on flat ground. The normal gear will lock the speed at around nine mph, which is useful for rookies or younger folks. Both the XR and the XR Ultra are kick-scooters, which adds another safety layer as you won’t be taken by surprise while suddenly accelerating from a standstill, as you’ll need to give the scooter a gentle push to get it going.
Disk and regen braking are part of the package regardless of what scooter version you pick. Most importantly, braking itself is impeccable and that counts a lot because you never know when you might need to safely slow down or draw to a halt to avoid pedestrians or other moving/standing obstacles. And we all know it’s always better to remain on your feet rather than jump off the scooter or throw it from underneath you and risk a nasty injury.
Now, let’s talk power. The GOTRAX XR makes do with a 250-watt e-motor, while the XR Ultra ups the ante a bit with a 300-watt e-motor fed by a larger LG-sourced, 7-Ah battery pack (the base XR has a 5.2-Ah battery). The difference in motor power is best felt during acceleration or whenever you need to climb a slope. you’ll feel a tad more pull from the 300-watt motor so if your commute involves this sort of terrain shape, then go for the XR Ultra; it also returns more range, as mentioned above.
All in all, the XR offers the same ride quality as the GXL V2 and that’s a compliment, by the way, albeit wrapped in a more attractive design.
GOTRAX XR. Price
At the time of writing, the GOTRAX XR is available for 299.99, while the XR Ultra comes in at 399.99. You can check them out on the GOTRAX online shop or on Amazon, via the links below:
Final Thoughts
We definitely like the XR’s safety credentials. That’s important in the wider context because some of us will ride these scooters dressed for office work, so neat handling, the ability to stop in no time, and a carrying-friendly design are must-have attributes.
The air-filled tires contribute to the comfortable ride, just like the soft yet grippy handlebars, while the sturdy build will make rides smooth and enjoyable.
Range might not be what some expect, but for a last-mile e-scooter that can be easily charged with a secondary cable at the office/coffee shop/friend’s house, even the base XR’s nine-mile real-life rating shouldn’t trigger any sort of anxiety with some Smart planning ahead.
That said, if you’re a rookie when it comes to e-scooter, or don’t need breathtaking performance, or simply on a budget, then you should definitely have a look at the GOTRAX XR lineup.

Our Take: Few Features, Low Speed But Good Value
GoTrax has just released the new XR electric scooter to replace last year’s GXL Commuter V2.- a great scooter that we selected as the Best Electric Scooter Under 300.
Like the previous GXL Commuter V2, the XR looks great, has terrific fit-and-finish, and is a fantastic value.
The Ultra has all the needed features that give an electric scooter its most crucial functionality. These features are [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’tiresize’ unit=’-inch’] pneumatic (air-filled), a disc brake, a headlight, and a robust folding-mechanism. The new for 2020 XR has an added safety pin to ensure the scooter doesn’t accidentally fold while riding. The XR has enough speed and range to be very functional, while still keeping the cost under 0.
The XR is targeted toward new electric scooter buyers.- those who think they will benefit from an electric scooter but don’t want to invest too much.
However, purchasers should take note that GOTRAX customer service now seems to be non-existent and we therefore recommend to purchase from large retailers with strong return policies, in case you have an issue.
Acceleration
We tested the acceleration of the Gotrax XR with an Error: Value not specified. rider on a flat road. The XR went from 0 to its top speed of. in As electric scooters go, this is slow, but new riders will still find it fun and adequate.

The XR climbed our standardized hill test 200 ft, 10% grade, 165 lbs rider) in [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’hillclimb-tested’ unit=’seconds’] at an average speed of [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’hillspeed-tested’]. This is the slowest hill climb result we’ve tested.
Though 10% grade is reasonably steep, if you have many steep hills in your city, expect to crawl up them. If the scooter has trouble, you can also assist by kicking.
If you want more hill climbing ability or are heavier, you’ll want a more powerful scooter. The upgraded XR Ultra climbed the same hill in [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR Ultra’ spec=’hillclimb-tested’ units=’seconds’] at an average speed of [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR Ultra’ spec=’hillspeed-tested’]. The Mi M365 climbed the same hill in [esg_spec scooter=’Xiaomi Mi M365′ spec=’hillclimb-tested’ units=’seconds’] at an average speed of [esg_spec scooter=’Xiaomi Mi M365′ spec=’hillspeed-tested’].
Range
The XR has a range of., based on our real-world range test.
We test every scooter on the same urban loop with frequent stops and hills, with the same 165 lb rider. The scooter is ridden as quickly as possible in the fastest mode (least energy-conserving).
The Gotrax XR is powered by a [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’battery’] lithium-ion battery pack.
You can compare the tested range of this scooter with others on our real-world testing page.
Braking
The XR has two braking systems for better performance, safety, and redundancy. The front wheel has a regenerative brake, which uses the motor to slow down, and the rear wheel has a disc brake.
We tested the braking performance of the XR and got an excellent braking distance of [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’braking-tested’ unit=’feet’] from its top speed of [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’topspeed-tested’ unit=’feet’]. For comparison, we typically see distances of [esg_unit 15 ft] to [esg_unit 25 ft].
Overall, the XR has a good braking system. Considering the budget price point of this scooter, it is outstanding. The brake lever is sturdy, and braking action is smooth. The disc brake didn’t require any adjustments out of the box, and the brake caliper is quiet.
Ride Quality
The XR has no suspension but does have two large pneumatic (air-filled tires). These air-filled tires are important for helping to smooth the ride on rough terrain.
On smooth roads, the XR is an enjoyable ride. Due to its small size, it feels very nimble. On poor roads, the tires will soak up some of the vibrations, but the ride quality will be rough. We still think this scooter performs better than the more expensive ES2, which has a poor suspension and solid (airless) tires.
For most riders, the air-filled tires will be sufficient for the worst roads they’ll encounter. However, if your commute involves a lot of poor roads, you may want to look at scooters with quality suspensions.
These are significantly more costly than the XR, and you won’t find scooters with quality suspension under 700. We think the Horizon is the least expensive scooter that has a quality suspension.
Portability
The Gotrax XR weighs. and has folded dimensions of [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’folded-length’ unit=’-inches’] by [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’folded-width’ unit=’-inches’] by [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’folded-height’ unit=’-inches’].
The XR is about as light as electric scooters come and should be relatively easy for most to carry up a flight of stairs or momentarily lift.
To reduce its size, the XR has a folding stem. The folding mechanism is simple and quick to operate. Compared to the previous version of the scooter (the GXL V2), the folding is improved. Gotrax added a pin as an additional safety measure to prevent the scooter from inadvertently folding while riding. When folded, the scooter passed our trunk test.- it is small enough to fit into the trunk of most cars.
If you are trying to board a crowded commuter train, the main concern will be the Error: Value not specified. wide handlebars that don’t fold. These aren’t enormous, but stick out and can get in the way.
Another issue we found is that the stem of the scooter, where you hold it when folded, is somewhat larger. If you have smaller hands, it is less ergonomic to hold onto.
Cockpit
We like the simple cockpit of the XR. It’s ideal for beginners because it is intuitive and straightforward. The controls are basic and include a thumb throttle, bell, and brake lever. We like that GOTRAX included an extra label on the throttle to remind users that the cruise control will activate after holding the throttle for 10 seconds.
The central element of the cockpit is a large, bright LED display. The LED display shows your speed and battery life. A single push-button controls power, lights, and mode. The scooter has two modes.
The first mode will limit your top speed to around 9 mph and is suitable for beginners or younger riders. The second mode unlocks the scooter to its maximum speed, which we found to be just under 15 mph with a 165 lb rider.
We think the cockpit is nicely put together. The handlebar grips, accelerator, and other controls are rubber and plastic but still feel high-quality.
Lights
The XR has a single bright LED headlight and a rear reflector on the fender. We think leaving out a taillight was an oversight. However, this can be remedied by clipping a red bike light to your backpack or helmet.
The headlight is reasonably bright. However, if you’re riding regularly at night, we think it’s safest to use additional ultra-bright light.

Tires
The XR has front and rear [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’tiresize’ unit=’-inch’] pneumatic (air-filled) tires. As we mentioned previously, these are great for providing good ride quality.
They also perform well in both wet and dry conditions.- a huge plus. Most airless (aka solid) tires become very slippery in wet conditions. These pneumatic tires provide better traction and performance overall, compared to airless ones.
The size of the tires is also a benefit as it helps to roll more easily over small obstacles or dips in the road.
It’s worth noting that pneumatic tires come with the risk of flats. This is a huge downside for many. We recommend using tire slime as a way to both prevent or repair flat tires. Read more about preventing or repairing tires with slime.
Deck
The XR has a deck with [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’deck-length’ unit=’-inches’] by [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’deck-width’ unit=’-inches’] of standing room. It is covered in a rubber mat with a cool GOTRAX logo.
This deck is on the smaller side for electric scooters, and if you have broad feet, you may have to hang them off the sides. Because of its smaller size, it won’t be quite as comfortable as a scooter with a huge deck. However, the smaller deck size helps keep the scooter compact and portable.
The deck has [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’deck-ground-clearance’ unit=’inches’] of ground clearance. This is enough to clear some curbs if you are dropping off of them quickly enough.
The deck-to-handlebar height is [esg_spec scooter=’GOTRAX XR’ spec=’deck-to-handlebar-min’ unit=’inches’].
Build Quality
The XR is the new version of the GXL V2, with some upgrades, but is otherwise identical. Like the GXL, the XR has very good fit-and-finish and build quality. We think when you consider the price, the build quality is excellent.
The XR has an IP rating (water-resistance) of [rg_IPX makemodel=”gotrax XR”]. This means it can tolerate splashes and getting caught in the rain, but not submersion. This is a great feature on a budget scooter.- scooters are costing twice as much that don’t have a water-resistance rating.
All parts of the scooter are nicely finished and assembled together well. It strikes us as a very mass-produced model with proper quality control processes in the factory. This is different from other scooters that are less mass-produced and tend to feel unfinished or have noticeable variations from scooter-to-scooter. The fit-and-finish is very nice.
Those things said, the scooter has some light plastic parts that won’t be as durable as hefty metal ones. We did perform our drop test on the scooter. We knock the scooter over 3 times in a row and check for damage. The scooter escaped unscathed but just based on its build, you’ll need to take care of it to prolong its life.
Conclusions
Overall, our review finds that the XR is a suitable replacement for the best under 300 Champion, Gotrax GXL Commuter V2 electric.
The new scooter comes with a lighter, more visible finish and improved folding mechanism. The XR delivers decent range, portability, and quality.
If you want more range or power, consider the Gotrax XR Ultra or the Xiaomi Mi M365. Both scooters are around 100 more than the XR.

Gotrax XR XR Ultra Electric Scooters Review
Today we take a look at the new-in-2020 flagship electric scooters from Gotrax. the XR line! In this review, we’ll be covering the standard and Ultra models.
Introduction
The Gotrax XR and XR Ultra both improve on the Gotrax GXL V2 in a few key areas, so if you liked the older Gotrax, you’ll love both of these new products. The two e-scooters are similar, but there are some differences worth talking about.
Overall, both offer good speed and range, a great braking system, and great tires. If you’re looking for a way to supplement a commute, these scooters fit the bill.
Motor and battery
The differences with the Gotrax XR and XR Ultra start with the motor and battery. The Gotrax XR has a 250-watt motor, like the GXL V2. The XR Ultra has a 300-watt motor, which mainly affects the acceleration. All three of these scooters have a 15.5 mph top speed, which feels very fast.
The range is where things vary a bit, which comes down to the differences in the battery. The XR uses a lithium 36 volt, 5.2aH battery. This improves on the range of the GXL, so now, you’ll get about 12 miles of range. The XR Ultra uses a bigger LG battery. it’s 7.0aH. so your range goes up to 16 miles.
Charging time for both the XR and XR Ultra takes about 3-4 hours. If you’re looking for a scooter that can take you further, the XR Ultra is your best choice between the two new Gotrax options.
Construction
Both Gotrax XR e-scooters are designed with commuters in mind. They’re foldable, so they’re easy to take with you on trains and buses. When folded, the dimension of both e-scooters is around 44 by 15 inches by 6-inches. Gotrax also improved the folding mechanism. Now you have a safety pin that helps keep the scooter from folding up when you don’t want it to.
Before folding, always make sure the scooter is powered off. Both the Gotrax XR and XR Ultra can hold a rider up to 220 pounds. At just over 26 pounds, these are very lightweight electric scooters as well.
What about the tires? At 8.5 inches, the tires have a nice size. While not an off-road e-scooter by any means, the bigger tires are designed for city streets that may not be as smooth as they could be. The tires are also air-filled, which helps significantly with shock absorption. Your ride will be comfortable and smooth.
For this price, it’s fairly unusual to have air-filled tires. It is normal for e-scooters in this price range to have a suspension system, but neither XR has this in place. The tires help offset this omission, but they do require more maintenance than solid tires.
Braking, Smart Display, and Safety
Every electric scooter needs a good braking system. Both the Gotrax XR and XR Ultra use a dual braking system. There’s a rear disc brake and front electronic brake system. A rear disc is great because it’s mechanical and gives you a sense of security.
You’ll always be able to brake with that system, even on wet roads. The electronic brake at the front is regenerative and takes some of the pressure off the rear brake. Regenerative braking helps you get the best range possible.
On the Smart display, you’ll be able to see your battery level and adjust your speed settings. The first setting limits the speed significantly while the second lets you open up the scooter’s full potential. If you’re new to riding, sticking to that first gear until you’re comfortable is a Smart idea. The scooters also have cruise control, so you can maintain your ideal speed and relax.
Riding an electric scooter in the dark comes with risks no matter what, but when it happens, you want to feel safe. The ultra-bright headlight and reflective tail light on both scooters make you visible and help you see.
What about riding when it’s wet out? The Gotrax XR and XR have an IP54 waterproof rating. No scooters should ever be submerged in water, but if you’re riding and it starts to rain, you don’t need to worry about the scooter breaking down.
Gotrax XR Ultra Electric Scooter Review 2023: Best E-Scooter
Electric scooters can be a cost-effective and enjoyable way to ride long distances. As long as you follow the rules of the road, it will be a safe ride too. Compared to traditional scooters, electric scooters are unquestionably more convenient to ride since you don’t have to manually kick to accelerate. Since they are foldable, electric scooters are also portable.
If you’re thinking about purchasing an electric scooter in the near future, consider buying Gotrax XR Ultra. It has a lot of good features and is made by Gotrax, a leading brand that excels in processors in every product, including electric scooters.
So is the Gotrax XR Ultra worth all the hype? Let’s find out as we look into all of its features in this Gotrax XR Ultra Review.
Speed and Power output
This bad boy can go up to 15.5 miles per hour depending on the rider’s weight, speed, terrain, and other riding habits. This speed is already considered fast for an electric scooter, especially for kids and beginners. It is equipped with a 300-watt powerful motor, which makes it entirely capable of dealing with all forms of road conditions.
The device is also connected to a high-voltage console, allowing it to produce 700 watts of electricity. As a result, the XR Ultra accelerates smoothly uphill without losing momentum. It has a multifunctional console feature that allows you to change the speed modes, which is very helpful, particularly for beginners.
Range and Battery Performance
The Gotrax XR Ultra’s battery is located inside the downtube, making the deck much slimmer than other electric scooters and making it more compact and easy to transport around when not in use. It comes with a high-capacity LG Battery 7.0AH that has a maximum range of up to 17 miles in ideal conditions. The Smart Battery Management System protects and extends the life of the battery.
The Gotrax XR Ultra battery also has a maximum range of 16 miles per charge, which is pretty impressive given that most electric scooters only have an 8 to 12-mile range per charge. The average charging time is 3 to 4 hours.
Design Construction Quality
The Gotrax XR Ultra has an innovative portable folding design feature which is a good type of scooter and best for commuting.
Materials
The frame of the scooter is made of aluminum alloy, while the secondary components are made of rubber and plastic.
Handlebar
The GoTrax XR Ultra’s handlebar has been carefully constructed. It is not too complex, nor does it have extreme decoration. The throttle control is the only thing on the right side of the handle. A brake control and a small bell are located on the opposite side of the handlebar.
A tiny LCD screen in the middle shows the speed of your scooter as well as the estimated battery life. In addition to all of this, a small red button has been mounted under the handlebar, which is responsible for turning the scooter on and off. The button is also in charge of controlling the headlight’s operation as well as adjusting the speed to the rider’s satisfaction.
Foldable
The Gotrax XR Ultra is completely foldable, with a safety pin to keep it from folding on its own when you’re on the road riding the scooter. Folded, it becomes small enough to be carried in one hand, so you won’t have any trouble getting your trip up and down a flight of stairs or onto and off public transit.
Assembly
The Gotrax XR Ultra will be delivered nearly entirely assembled, with the exception of the handlebar and brake cable. Removing the carrying hook at the top of the handlebar post, pressing the handlebars into the stem, and then tightening the hook with the Allen wrench given is all that is needed to connect the handlebars. After that, tie the loose wire into the fastening hook on the side of the stem and place the brake wire into the brake barrel.
Tires Braking System
The front and back tires on the GoTrax XR Ultra are air-filled (pneumatic). Each tire measures 8.5 inches in width and is capable of offering a comfortable ride. The greatest part about these tires is that they fit admirably in both dry and rainy environments.
It comes with a dual braking system. One of them is a front-wheel-connected electronic braking system. The disc braking mechanism, which is attached to the handbrake, supports the back wheel. These disc brake systems are now a standard feature on electric scooters, and they have outstanding braking strength while still being simple to manage.
Both brakes are incredibly smooth and have a harmonized feel. This means that regardless of how hard you slam on the brakes, the brake lever will change the speed without knocking you off the scooter.
Safety
The brake system on the GoTrax XR Ultra makes it a really stable scooter. The brakes are excellent and have sufficient stopping strength for a scooter of this size. As an added safety feature, it has a small pin that stops the scooter from folding or flipping unexpectedly when you’re riding it or taking it down the stairs.
The excellent braking system, premium construction quality and style, not-too-high top speed, pneumatic tires, and a strong balance of the scooter all combine to make it a really safe option for almost everyone.
Brand Customer Service
Gotrax is one of the best companies that brings the best electric scooter available on the market today. Aside from providing the best products, they also provide the best customer service.
Customer service is located in the United States, and they have free delivery for all of their products. You have a 30-day return window if you wish to return the scooter, and a 90-day extended guarantee is included ( 1 ).
On the Gotrax website, you’ll find owner’s guides, as well as a FAQ page ( 2 ) and contact details, if you have any concerns regarding your scooter.
Downsides
Its power is insufficient to scale extremely steep hills. To drive up the slope, you’ll have to kick a little harder.
The biggest disadvantage of the XR Ultra is that it lacks a tail light and only has a rear reflector, which is insufficient for nighttime travel.
There is no suspension, which makes the journey on rocky grounds a bit tricky.
Who Should Buy the Gotrax XR Ultra Electric Scooter?
There are a lot of reasons why I chose the Gotrax XR Ultra electric scooter. But my main reason is that it is extremely lightweight and very portable. You can carry the scooter anywhere you want, even on public transportation like buses, and even on the subway.
Final Verdict
The Gotrax XR Ultra electric scooter reaches a rating of 4.5/5 on our rating board.
There’s always a space for improvement, that’s why I can’t call the GoTrax XR Ultra a perfect electric scooter. Though it has a 300-watt powerful motor capable of dealing with all forms of road conditions, it also comes with a high-capacity LG Battery 7.0AH that has a maximum range of up to 17 miles in ideal conditions. Both brakes are incredibly smooth and have a harmonized feel. It is completely foldable, with a safety pin to keep it from folding on its own when you’re on the road riding the scooter. A tiny LCD screen in the middle shows the speed of your scooter as well as the estimated battery life.
With all its extra and outstanding features, it is really hard to find an electric scooter as good as the Gotrax XR Ultra in the market today.
