Fazua Ride 60 Proves E-MTB Qualities for the First Time in the Haibike Lyke
A good five months have passed since Fazua presented its second drive, the Ride 60. At the premiere in April, model series from RieseMüller and Canyon were to be seen, which equipped urban ebikes with it. At the Eurobike in July, Velo de Ville followed suit, also with bikes whose playground is the urban traffic. But there is much greater potential in the Fazua Ride 60. Haibike is now proving this with its first light e-MTB called Lyke.
Some of you may be surprised by this news. After all, for years Haibike’s e-mountain bikes were supposed to convey one message above all others: We deliver endless power. Gladly paired with massive frame constructions and flashy colours. With the Lyke, the manufacturer is not doing a U-turn. Rather, it is sailing into previously unknown waters and expanding its very own map of the world, to stay in sailing language for a moment.
Only the beginning?
According to reports, the manufacturer considers the integration of the drive and the opening of a whole new segment to be a step that could be followed by others in the future. He is deliberately targeting people who appreciate the sporty appeal of cycling. Who perhaps still ride a conventional bike, but at the same time think about an ebike from time to time, but can’t really get used to the idea of buying one. Because ebikes seem too clunky to them. Because they don’t want to propel 25 kilograms. Especially not if the battery runs out unexpectedly early. Because riding an ebike often requires so much more than just getting on the bike and going.
Fun on big wheels
The Lyke is designed to dispel such concerns. Haibike plays the fun card. What is meant, of course, is riding fun. And the fun object is a light, agile trail bike that brings the advantages of electric assistance to bear at precisely the moments when they are most in demand. Before and after that, you are welcome to get the impression that you are riding your previous bio-bike.
Based on such preliminary considerations, Haibike designed a frame made of carbon, geared it to suspension elements with a travel of 140 millimetres front and rear and set it on 29-inch wheels. A steep seat angle of 77.3 degrees and a fairly flat head angle of 65 degrees provide a modern compromise between downhill and uphill riding. And of course, the Haibike-typical double kink in the top tube is not to be missed.
Everyday usability more important than record weight
In order for more people to actually consider switching to an ebike, the manufacturer really wanted to make it easier for them to charge the battery. From his point of view, it is crucial for many people not to have to carry the ebike to the socket, but to be able to connect the battery at the place of their choice. As soon as an ebike is to be taken on a trip together with the car, convenient removal of the energy storage unit is also an advantage.
Haibike has even subordinated the ultimate reduction of the total weight to this goal. A completely fixed battery would have reduced the weight of the frame even further. So now there is an opening near the bottom bracket through which the battery can be pulled out. But wait – isn’t the mid-mounted motor in the way? Yes, normally it would. But the combination of the special shape of the Fazua Ride 60’s drive unit and Haibike’s ingenuity prevent this collision.
The manufacturer has simply rotated the motor for integration. A look at the history shows that he has already done the same with other motors on other ebikes. Just not as extreme as in this case. The majority of the motor protrudes into the seat tube inside the frame at an angle of around 90 degrees. This clears the way in the down tube for the battery. Fittingly, it slides almost to the end of the down tube. The low position of the motor and battery makes for a great balance of the bike. This results in longer contact with the ground while riding as well as extremely agile and manoeuvrable handling. The skid plate mounted below the bottom bracket basically only protects the opening for battery removal, but not the motor at all. The motor is almost completely enclosed by the frame. At the end of all this fiddling, the total weight of the top model of the Lyke is around 18 kilograms.
In the course of developing this new bike, Haibike also took a fresh look at the kinematics. The result is the abandonment of a classic four-bar linkage in the sense that the manufacturer had mostly used in the past. Instead, the Lyke’s shock is attached to the top tube via an adapter. The actual equipment of all three models, Lyke SE, Lyke 11 and Lyke 10, is of a very high quality. Brake and shifting components from Shimano’s noble XTR groupset as well as a wheelset with carbon rims and the Transfer Factory dropper seatpost from Fox contribute just as much.
Those who are willing to invest so much get to enjoy an absolutely convincing riding experience on the trail in return. Instead, it becomes clear how successfully the existing masses are distributed.
Less is more
During our test ride, we were positively surprised by how well the minimalist operating concept of the Fazua Ride 60 with the almost invisible ring control on the handlebar and the LED hub embedded in the top tube works in practice. The remote in particular rightly deserves to be called intuitive. Press up once and you’ll reach the next higher support level. Press down once and the motor reduces accordingly. Not having to fiddle with the top tube during the ride is worth its weight in gold. After several metres of ascent, just one LED of the battery indicator goes out at the end of the ride. The Ride 60 is not particularly energy-consuming. Accordingly, the 430 watt hours of the battery should be sufficient for everyday use. If you want to play it safe, you can use a range extender with 210 additional watt-hours. Haibike offers this as a plug-and-play solution in the now quite widespread form that fits into an ordinary bottle cage.

Haibike is an eMTB specific brand founded in Germany, which has been banging the eBike drum since 1995, long before some modern bike brands even had their first ‘traditional’ bikes out the front door.
The XDURO AllMtn 3.0 fills the slot between Trail and Enduro bike in the rich and varied menu of Haibike’s offering. Packing 150mm of rear travel, a 160mm Rockshox Yari fork, and rolling on 27.5” wheels the XDURO AllMtn 3.0 cuts an interesting silhouette, which may not be to everyone’s taste.
The geometry certainly leans towards this being a trail bike over and above the suggestions from the fairly hefty travel numbers and the AllMtn tag. A 66-degree head angle is firmly in modern trail bike territory while the seat angle sits at a fraction over 75 degrees to aid pedalling efficiency on the climbs.

On The Trail
Visually the Haibike has a love or hate ‘Marmite’ character and it’s interesting to see the different ways that manufacturers are taking on the challenges of eMTB design. Cable routing is an interesting mix of internal and external, a combination which doesn’t appear to serve a purpose other than to tick a feature box. In reality, most cables can be found attached to the top of the seatstays, the rear derailleur cable cutting a particularly messy line, while the dropper post also gets external routing.
Charging the Haibike via the sealed port was as simple and clean as it could ever be but removal and reinsertion of the battery was a fiddle unless the bike was inverted. Bosch’s Purion display is simple enough to use and gives a very clear readout, although the walk mode wasn’t as intuitive as others to use. The other control elements were reliable without ever being plush. TRP’s Gwin spec brakes were reliable and the shifting was crisp and precise for the duration of the many test rides we did. The remote lever for the XLC AllMtn dropper post felt somewhat cheap and clunky in comparison to the rest of the bike’s build quality, however.
The Rodi Tryp 35mm rims offer good stiffness and were never an issue, and the Maxxis Minion DHF and DHR tyres were as dependable as ever, if not very spritely! However, not having the wheels set up tubeless out of the box, or even taped is a shame.

At 25.4kg this is not a light machine, even for an eMTB, so it’s just as well that the Bosch motor is able to keep things moving. There’s plenty of power on tap and it’s direct if not a little binary. At times, on technical sections, it felt difficult to regulate through the pedals, as though there was either no drive or too much, leading to a jerky riding style that took a few rides to master.
Once up to speed with which of the four modes – Eco, Tour, eMTB/Sport, and the savage Turbo – was best to use in which situation piloting the Haibike became good fun, especially over moderate terrain and, of course, when quickly munching through climbs. Point the Haibike downhill and it quickly becomes apparent that this bike would be best enjoyed by riders with some experience, as a lot of your weight is perched out front.
In fact, the riding position is the biggest area of concern for the XDURO AllMtn 3.0. The short reach really hampers confidence on steep descents, where the otherwise good length of the bike feels wasted out back. Pushing the bike into testing terrain yielded a few hairy moments where another few centimetres of reach would have settled things down, though the weight of the bike kept things planted if a little numb.
The Bosch ebike display, it’s not subtle.
Moving the seat forward gave a better feeling of balance and improved the power output on really steep climbs (where eBikes really earn their crust) though only when a high cadence was sustained, such is the character of the Bosch motor.
The frame, although not necessarily pretty, is a manufacturing curiosity. By using advanced casting techniques Haibike has achieved an impressive modular system that allows quick and easy swapping of major components, making for a strong and relatively cheap bike.
And it’s on the frame where the XDURO AllMtn 3.0 holds its trump card. The high pivot rear suspension set up not only allows for the motor to be kept high and out of harm’s way but offers the additional benefit of removing pedalling influence from the rear suspension by bypassing the pivot point. The result is a buttery smooth pedalling experience over all but the roughest terrain and squarest of hits, even while seated, and it goes some way to make up for the short front end.
Messy cockpit lever set up
The XDURO AllMtn 3.0 just sneaks through to the All-Mountain category by virtue of its impressive high pivot rear suspension platform, which on an eBike, where you’re going to be pedalling up and over everything, makes a huge amount of sense.
Extending the reach on this bike would go a long way to improving stability, rider confidence, and ultimately enjoyment on steeper trails but there’s no doubting it’s a lot of fun as a jack of all trades mile muncher.

A truly worthy off road electric bike has landed here in the US and it’s name is the Haibike XDURO FS RX!
The FS RX features the advanced Bosch Performance mid drive e-bike system, 120mm of front and rear suspension, a hydroformed aluminum frame, a solid mix of components (RockShox, Fox, Shimano, DT Swiss, etc.) and the 27.5″ wheel size.
At 5,200 this is not an inexpensive bike but it does offer a lot of bang for the buck.

Probably the most remarkable part of the FS RX is the Bosch Performance mid drive system. This year Bosch jumped into the US market with their mid drive system spec’ed with a 350 watt motor (60 Nm of torque) that can assist you up to 20 mph.
Bosch has a significant presence in the European market and now they are focused on launching their system in the US on a number of bikes. They have been working on e-bike systems since 2009 and it is impressive to see the progress they have made since.

The mid drive system from Bosch is highly advanced with 3 sensors (torque, cadence, and wheel speed) that take 1,000 readings every second! These sensors monitor your pedaling style and force to provide you with the appropriate amount of assist. In addition the system can sense when you are going to shift gears and ease off on the power to make shifting smoother.
Like all mid drive systems, the motor’s torque and power is multiplied by powering through the gears of the bike. By shifting to lower gears on the bike you can enable to motor to assist you on the steepest climbs and shifting to higher gears will assist you up to a 20 mph cruising speed. You can keep pedaling above 20 mph if you want.
Pedal assist is the name of the game with the Bosch system; there is no throttle to be found on their systems. There are 4 different levels of pedal assist (Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo) in addition to a no assist option. The assist is adjusted up or down with the control pad on the left side of the handlebars.
The Bosch Intuvia display provides information like pedal assist level, battery level, speed, odometer, trip distance, clock, max speed, average speed, trip time, and……estimated range!
The range function is very useful because you will know approximately how much range you have left based on the current battery level and what pedal assist level you are in. The system will recalculate based on what kind of terrain you have been riding on.
When the battery is fully charged these are the estimated ranges that the display provides:
Another interesting feature of the display is that it has a USB port that can charge your phone or MP3 player and it is also used to run diagnostics on the system. The display can easily be removed for taking with you when you lock up the bike.
It is very easy to read the large display day or night thanks to the bright backlit display.
Powering the system is the Bosch Powerpack 400 lithium battery. It is a 36V 11ah (396 Wh) pack that weighs 5.5 lbs and has a relatively small size for that energy density. With the Bosch charger, the battery can be 50% charged in 1.5 hours and 100% charged in 3.5 hours.
Alright, so that is the low down on the Bosch system, let’s talk about the rest of this full suspension e-mountain bike.
The Haibike FS RX is a very capable full suspension mountain bike with 120 mm (4.75″) of front and rear travel and the relatively new wheel size of 27.5″ (the intermediate size between 26″ and 29″ wheels).
The 6061 aluminium hydroformed frame has been engineered to create a bike that fits well while adding material to the high stress areas on the frame. Internal cable routing on the FS RX keeps cable/wire clutter to a minimum.
Haibike uses a 4 bar linkage rear suspension on their frames and the position of the rear shock “through” the seat tube of the frame has a unique look! The Fox CTD LV shock has 3 different levels of adjustment for climbing, trail riding, and descending.
A RockShox Reba R front suspension fork with 120 mm of travel and a 15 mm thru axle smooths out rough roads. There is a fork lockout button on the handlebars and this improves pedaling efficiency when you don’t need the suspension activated.
A 10 speed Shimano SLX drivetrain with 11-36t cogset is the spec on the FS RX and it provides enough range for climbing steep hills as well as cruising at 20 mph. 10 speed drivetrains are pretty common on mountain bikes these days.
Slowing the FS RX down is handled by the Shimano M615 hydraulic disc brakes. A large 203mm rotor is on the front wheel and a 180mm rotor is on the rear wheel.
Speaking of wheels, the rims and spokes are from DT Swiss; a well know brand in the wheel world.
Haibike did not cut corners with the tires; they spec’ed the well known Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s that have an aggressive all mountain tread.
Riding the Haibike XDURO FS RX:
Well after going through the details of the FS RX, you can tell that it has been designed for true off road riding.
And to put it to the test, I definitely spent some time riding this bike on the rough terrain here in AZ.
I have to say that the FS RX did very well and the Bosch system lives up to it’s reputation as an off road worthy kit.
Oh yeah, and it is a lot of fun!
The low and centered weight distribution of the motor and battery provide for an agile handling bike in technical terrain. In a lot of situations it is hard to tell that there is the extra weight of the motor and battery.
It also helps that the FS RX is relatively light for an electric bike at 48 lbs.
The Bosch pedal assist system is very responsive and it has an intuitive feel. There is no delay when the assist turns on or off; it responds to your pedal power almost instantaneously.
The 4 levels of assist have a distinct difference in their assist power so that you can find the one that suits the terrain that you are riding and your energy level. Changing the pedal assist level is very easy thanks to the control pad on the left side of the handlebar.
Reading the Bosch Intuvia display in any lighting condition is possible thanks to the large numbers, backlight, and front and center location on the handlebars.
At 350 watts of power at the mid drive, the FS RX can get up and go pretty quick but it is not a speed racer. It is really suited for climbing steep hills and going the distance (when riding in Eco mode).
The 120mm of front and rear suspension does a great job of soaking up the rough terrain. Quality suspension components from RockShox and Fox make for a plush ride with many ways to fine tune the suspension performance to fit your riding style. The lockout features on the shocks are nice if you want to stand out of the saddle and crank on the pedals on smooth terrain.
I have grown to like the 27.5″ wheels because they have agility in technical terrain like a 26″ wheel but they have the ability to roll over more obstacles like a 29″ wheel. The Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s are solid tires that hook up well in the corners.
The FS RX has a solid ride feel thanks to the quality components from Shimano.
Shifting the Shimano SLX drivetrain was pretty smooth but there is a tendency for some “hard shifts” on the higher gears. For the most part the Bosch system eases up when you shift, but on the lower part of the cogset there is a definite abruptness.
Speaking of shifting, there is some motor sound that you can hear when you are in the lower gears of the bike. It is not really loud but there is some noise. In the higher gears the motor noise is not as noticeable.
There is plastic shrouding around the motor and it seems that this could be vulnerable to impact from rocks. I didn’t have any problems on the terrain that I rode, but I wonder about long term durability of the plastic shrouding.
Overall, the FS RX has a fun and well balanced ride feel. It is fun to have some help on the climbs and then enjoy carving a descent on a bike that feels very similar to a traditional mountain bike.
The Haibike XDURO FS RX Ride Test Results:
Here is the real world information on how the Haibike XDURO FS RX electric bike performed on a riding circuit that includes hills, flats, traffic, wind (when available) etc.
While testing these bikes I like to put them through the toughest conditions to see where their bottom line is in regards to range and speed.
Range: As you can see from the GPS info that I recorded, the Haibike XDURO FS RX traveled 28.8 miles and did a total elevation gain/loss of around 2,500 ft. Considering that I weigh 190 lbs and I pedaled very lightly this is pretty good range for a 36 Volt 11 ah battery pack (396 Watt Hours) with a 350 watt motor.
When I started the ride it was interesting that the range estimated 22 miles in Turbo mode, yet the bike went 28.8 miles with significant climbing. It is a good thing that the estimated range was conservative!
Watt hours are the total energy in a battery pack and it is based on the volts x amp hours of a pack. This is a way to compare the size of the “gas tank” of electric bikes.
Please keep in mind that if you pedal more, weigh less than me, ride slower and/or you use the bike in terrain that is not as hilly you will get more range. These results are from tough testing.
Speed: The Haibike FS RX can get up to 20 mph on flat ground. The FS RX does a great job of climbing hills thanks to it’s mid drive motor and 10 speed drivetrain. Even the steepest hills can be tackled using the low gears of the bike.
Weight: The FS RX tips the scales at 48 lbs.
The weight distribution of the FS RX is very good thanks to the mid drive motor and the mid mounted battery pack. The low and centered motor and battery provide for an electric bike that handles very well both on and off road.
Fun! The Haibike FS RX is a lot of fun to ride! Being able to easily climb up steep hills/mountains and then enjoy carving a descent with 120mm of front and rear travel will put a smile on your face.
Bosch: The Bosch mid drive Performance system is a high quality product that performs well and has some nice features like estimated range, fast charging, and good range.
Components: The component mix on the FS RX is well thought out with an off road worthy mix of brand name components like RockShox, Fox, Shimano, DT Swiss, etc.
Sound: There is some motor noise when using the lower gears on the bike for climbing a hill. The noise is not as noticeable when in the higher gears of the bike.
Hard Shifts: Shifting in the lower gears has some abruptness. It is not as noticeable in the the lower gears.
Plastic Parts: It would be nice to see less plastic shrouding around the motor.
Overall the Haibike XDURO FS RX is a fun and very capable off road electric bike. The Bosch Performance system has a high quality ride feel and the RockShox/Fox suspension system enables you to ride a variety of rough terrain.
If you plan on riding off road a lot then you should definitely checkout the Haibike XDURO FS RX.
Please keep in mind that this is a relatively short term test. This testing can’t really give you the long term review of durability and reliability. My thoughts on the quality of this bike are from previous experiences with similar bikes. Your Комментарии и мнения владельцев on the plastic motor shrouds are off the mark. Use of plastic for impact protection and noise suppression is widely used in off road applications. Look at many off road enduro motorcycles / ATVs / UTES that have plastic skid plates under the frame and engine. Plastic has deflection and deformation properties that absorb energy. I assume you would rather have a cracked piece of sacrificial plastic rather than a cracked motor housing after the big get-off?

The Haibike LYKE CF SE – In our big “Best Light-eMTB of 2023” group test
With the LYKE CF SE, German eMTB pioneer Haibike introduced their first Light-eMTB and at the same time ushered in an entirely new chapter in the company’s history. The LYKE reinvents Haibike’s classic design language, with a sportier look and innovative integration concept. But is the LYKE as fast as it looks?
That’s a Haibike? At first glance it’s hard to believe, because the € 10,999 LYKE CF boasts a sporty new look and new rear suspension system, which positions the shock horizontally in the frame. The latter controls 140 mm travel and is paired with a 140 mm fork. The FAZUA Ride 60 motor sits upright above the bottom bracket and is integrated into the wide seat tube rather than the down tube. This innovative integration concept gives engineers more freedom with frame designs while at the same time getting rid of the typical “golf driver” shape bottom end of the down tube which is typical of many FAZUA bikes. In size L, the LYKE tips the scales at 18.6 kg.

The Light-eMTB Haibike LYKE CF SE 2023 in detail
The clever positioning of the motor also clears the way for the 430 Wh battery, which can be removed from the bottom of the downtube and charged both on and off the bike. The latter option requires an adapter, but this comes standard with the LYKE. The LED HUB display integrated into the top tube shows the charge status in 20% increments via LEDs, which change in colour depending on the current support mode. However, distinguishing between the colours of the different support modes can be difficult in direct sunlight. The cables are routed through the headset but not through the stem, which makes it easier to fine-tune the cockpit. The down tube features a bottle cage mount and two additional bosses for a tool mount, which can be used to carry all your trail essentials directly on the bike. This is also new for Haibike and replaces their proprietary Modular Rail System, which wouldn’t suit the sporty look of the LYKE.

For the flagship LYKE model, Haibike use many components from popular third-party brands instead of their in-house parts, which really suits the new, sporty look. The suspension consists of a 36 GRIP2 fork and matching FLOAT X shock. The superior GRIP2 damper of the fork allows for countless adjustment options and delivers a tremendous performance on the trail, while the shock has externally adjustable low-speed compression and rebound settings. FOX also supply the 150 mm Transfer Factory dropper post, which has substantially less travel than the average in this test (168 mm), restricting freedom of movement. Shimano XTR brakes with 200 mm rotors front and rear ensure powerful and reliable deceleration, and shifting is taken care of by a Shimano XTR drivetrain. However, this is paired with a cheaper XT cassette, which is 100 g heavier than its top-tier counterpart, but nevertheless ensures the same excellent shifting performance. The LYKE rolls on a Mavic E-Crossmax XL R carbon wheelset with MAXXIS DISSECTOR tires in the hard MaxxTerra compound, both front and rear. While the shallow tire profile ensures minimal rolling resistance, on most forest trails it doesn’t generate sufficient traction. A tire with a more aggressive profile, like a Minion DHF – preferably in the softer MaxxGrip rubber compound – would suit the character of the LYKE better. over, we would replace the standard, puncture prone EXO casing at the front and EXO at the rear with a more robust variant, like MAXXIS’ Doubledown.

The Haibike LYKE is available in four sizes, S to XL. Our test bike in size L combines 479 mm reach with a very long 470 mm seat tube. This is inevitable, because the vertically-mounted motor takes up a good portion of the lower seat tube, requiring a longer seat tube to ensure sufficient insertion depth for the dropper post. Unfortunately this is the one big downer of Haibike’s innovative integration concept, because the long seat tube paired with the short-travel dropper post restricts freedom of movement on the bike. Chainstays are 450 mm across the board, which makes them the longest in the entire test field together with the Scott.

The Light-eMTB Haibike Lyke CF SE 2023 on the trail
The Haibike puts you into a compact, upright pedalling position, placing you on top of the bike rather than integrating you between its wheels. This makes for somewhat undefined handling, especially when negotiating slow trail sections. The firm rear suspension works efficiently, allowing you to make your way to the trailhead in relaxed fashion, even without reaching for the climb switch. Only on very steep climbs will the rear suspension struggle to generate traction. The FAZUA motor pushes willingly, particularly when using Boost mode. That being said, controlling the 12-second turbo blast isn’t easy, especially on technical climbs.
The LYKE doesn’t integrate you between its wheels and the weight is unevenly distributed between front and rear, resulting in unbalanced handling.
When gravity takes over, the Haibike doesn’t integrate you between its wheels either, making you feel as if you were sitting on top of the bike. However, the LYKE is nimble and responds to steering input willingly and precisely, especially in narrow trail sections. The long chainstays make for uneven weight distribution which, in turn, forces you far over the front of the bike. With their shallow profile and hard rubber compound, the MAXXIS DISSECTOR tires quickly reach their limits, causing the front wheel to feel twitchy. Compared to the Focus, the Haibike might be a tad nimbler but lacks nearly all of its composure and predictability. Overall, the LYKE is a handful to ride and rather unforgiving of mistakes. The suspension offers good support and allows you to generate speed on flat, flowing trails. On demanding trails, however, the LYKE feels rather nervous and the suspension’s lack of final progression quickly turns botched landings into sore ankles.
Thanks to Haibike’s innovative integration concept, the motor of the Lyke is integrated into the seat tube. This gives engineers more freedom with frame designs and allows you to remove the battery from the bottom of the downtube.
