Our Take: Incredible Ride and Build Quality (But Not a Speed Demon)
The OX has a unique design and is one of the highest quality scooters available on the market. All of its parts are custom and made to fit and work together. This is not a scooter built from generic parts.
It features a single-sided swingarm that allows you to change the tire without removing the wheel. Its innovative suspension is durable, ultra-quiet, and quite comfortable. And, unlike many other scooters, it has a thumb throttle that remains comfortable on long trips.
Where some buyers may have reservation is its price and somewhat sluggish initial acceleration. For around, 1499 USD (price depends on variant), most riders expect a break-neck beast scooter. The OX does deliver with its 28.2 mph tested top speed, but accelerates unenthusiastically under 15 mph.
No, the OX is not for buyers looking for the fastest, cheapest scooter. It is targeted towards those looking for a scooter that works great out of the box, doesn’t need frequent repairs, and has incredible quality and design. If this is you, then read on.
Acceleration
The Inokim OX has sluggish low-end acceleration. During our tests, it took 5.3 seconds to reach 15 mph. However, above 15 mph, the scooter comes to life — its torque increases, and it feels much more alive.
The benefit of having more gentle acceleration is that the scooter is not jerky. However, when riding in traffic, you sometimes need a big burst of speed to merge over or just get going if you’re blocking someone behind you.
Hill Climb
The OX has decent hill-climbing ability, but like its acceleration on the flat, it takes a while for it to build up speed.
During our hill climb test (200 ft, 10% grade, 165 lb rider), the OX took 13.7 seconds. A typical shared scooter will take about 16 seconds under the same conditions.
Top Speed
The OX has an excellent top speed of 28.2 mph, thanks to its 800 watt electric motor.
Most shared scooters top out around 16 mph.
Range
The Inokim OX has a tested range of 21.1 Mi.
We perform all range tests on the same track with the same 165 lb rider. The scooter is ridden at the highest speed that is safe and in the fastest (least energy-conserving) mode.
We tested the 60V, 13 Ah version of the OX, which has a 780 watt-hour battery pack. There are currently two variants available:
OX Eco has 48 V, 13 Ah, 624 watt-hour battery
OX Super has 57.6 V, 21 Ah, 1210 watt-hour battery
We estimate that the Eco should get around 17 Mi of range, and the Super should get 32 Mi of range.
Braking
The brakes on the OX feel amazing — they are beefy and were dialed-in out of the box. There is a drum brake in the front and a disc brake in the rear.
We found the brakes to be strong. The OX had a 15 mph braking distance of just 11.0 ft, according to our tests.
They are also very quiet — even the rear disc brake. Disc brakes tend to be noisy (and we’ve seen OX reviews complain about this); however, ours was quiet.
We also love the redundancy of the brake system — it adds to the safety factor and is essential to have in case one brake fails.
Ride Quality
Riding on the OX feels terrific — everything from the grips to the thumb throttle to the suspension feels super smooth. The suspension is stiff, but still manages to soak up bumps, and inspires confidence.
Best of all, the OX does it all while being super quiet. This scooter has literally ZERO creaks or annoying sounds — nothing to imply that it is anything but superior in quality.
Overall, ride quality is one of the stand-out features of the OX. It’s an aspect where you realize this is a purposefully designed machine and not a parts bin Frankenscooter.
Portability
The folding mechanism and stem shape are nicely designed. They feel stable for locking into place and one-handed carry.
However, the OX weighs 57 lb, which is relatively heavy. It will exceed the carrying capacity of many people, and even those who are more able won’t want to carry it more than necessary. We found taking it up one flight of stairs was doable (not fun), but any more than that is very cumbersome.
While the stem does fold, the handlebars do not. We were still able to fit the folded OX into the trunk of a small passenger vehicle — though just barely.
The folded dimensions of the OX are 47 in by 23 in by 23 in. This is comparable with other longer-ranged commuters, but you’ll want to check first if you have special requirements for storing it.
Cockpit
Most importantly, the throttle is thumb-controlled — which we love — this is much more ergonomic than the trigger throttle, which is uncomfortable for longer rides. The throttle feels high quality and smooth, and you’ll never have to worry about cramped hands with this scooter.
The rubber grips are thick and give you excellent control over the scooter.
The handlebars feel sturdy and robust, but we did get some play from the folding mechanism. The mechanism has a rubber padding that wears away in time; our model was an old demo scooter that needed for this to be replaced.
Lights
The OX has ultra-bright white LED headlights that are tilted up to shine directly at oncoming vehicles. This is helpful for being seen from a distance but does not serve well for illuminating the road ahead. The lights may actually be too bright and could impair the vision of oncoming vehicles.
The OX has an asymmetric rear red LED taillight that is only on the right side of the scooter. This is distinguishing and kind of cool, but its low-mounted position is not ideal for being seen. It’s also a bit curious that they opted for the right side, where it is more difficult to be seen by a vehicle passing on the left.

Tires
The OX has super plus [esg_spec scooter=’Inokim OX’ spec=’tiresize’ unit=’-inch’] by 2.5-inch pneumatic (air-filled) inner tube tires. These tires ride on rims with jet-engine-like spokes. We always favor air-filled tires due to the additional suspension and traction they provide.
One of the coolest features of the tires are that you can actually change them without having to remove the wheels. This is due to the single-sided swingarm that only connects to the wheel on one side. Not only does this look super cool, but it is also very functional.
The only downside to air-filled tires is the risk of flats. Flats can be prevented and repaired with tire slime.

The OX has a generous deck that is covered with rock-like texture. The deck surface is made of hard, textured plastic. This deck does not grip as well as grip tape, and in wet conditions, it becomes downright slippery.
