FAQ’S

Can I test ride a bike?

We are a direct-to-consumer electric cruiser bike company both in pricing and strategy. You will generally pay a premium for the ability to test ride an electric bike through a dealer. However, our electric bikes have been thoroughly tested by top reviewers such as Electric Bike Review, Electric Bike Report, Cycling Weekly, Clean Technica, Electrek, and many others who have published their reviews on YouTube. You can read electric bike reviews on any of those sites. Additionally, we are now supporting an independent network of e-bike owners offering their bikes for demos. What can I expect ordering a bike from Ride1UP?

This article will explain all about what to expect when ordering an electric bike from us. Ordering With Us

Can I upgrade the cruiser’s battery?

Unfortunately, the 15ah battery pack is the largest available that will fit this cruiser electric bike frame. The e-bike battery provides a range of 30-50 miles on a single charge.

Can I switch the electric bike handlebars to another model?

No, you cannot switch the handlebars on our cruisers. The variations you see on the site are the only options we have for our electric bikes.

Can you ship to _?

We only ship our electric bikes within North America. The Continental United States is FREE. Shipping to Canada is 400. Currently, not shipping to Hawaii. We are not responsible for any additional tariffs charged by your local government which often times applied after importing ebikes. Unfortunately, we are not able to ship our electric bikes directly to Europe or Alaska at this time. You can use a shipping forwarder like ShopUsa.com to reach your country.

Are the cruiser electric bikes water-proof?

The electric bikes are not water-proof, they are water-resistant, rated IP-65. While we do not recommend leaving the ebikes out in the rain or riding in the rain or other hazardous conditions due to personal safety, the electric bikes can handle water exposure. Leaving your e-bike in the rain or other hazardous conditions could shorten the lifespan of the electric bike.

My wife and I are in LOVE! We both absolutely love our new Cafe Cruisers (and of course each other)! She is the proud owner of a Latte Gloss and I ride my Indigo Matte! After months (and I mean months) of researching which way to go with our entry into the E-bike world, we decided on Ride1Up and we are sooo glad we did! This is a very solid bike, so well built, and so much fun to ride! Now we find ourselves hurrying home at the end of the day so we can get our Cafe Cruiser time in, and exploring every corner of our city! The geniuses at Ride1Up really nailed it with this bike! We’ve never been on a more comfortable bike and now have all the confidence in the world to ride, ride, ride! My wife just loves her ‘get up and go’ button (throttle)!! Get yours quick! You won’t regret it!

I have just passed 500 miles on my Cruiser. It looks and performs as new…which is Perfect! I bought my Cafe Cruiser last November for my birthday. My wife loved it so much, we’ve added a 700 Series to our R1U family! This was not my first eBike. My first was a disaster! So, I spent many hours researching, to not make another mistake. From the moment I opened the box, I was in love! Amazing build quality. Durable. This bike will last a long time. We live on a small island where most residents have golf carts. Our Ride1UP bikes are better, faster and require no license. It was the ideal choice for us! I’ve only contacted Support once, but it was a very comfortable experience. My issue was resolved instantly. I can’t say enough about these bikes and this company! We’re believers!

Absolutely in love with this bike. Rides wonderfully, nice smooth ride. Wish there was some shock absorption for the the post, but that’s easily changed.

I’m 71 years old. I’ve been riding and working on bicycles for over sixty years and motorcycles for fifty years. I’ve been resisting the urge to try out an e-bike, as I have no difficulty handling a “traditional” bicycle. But then I read about the Cafe Cruiser and decided to buy one (it was probably the bicycle’s design that swayed me more than anything). The cruiser is outstanding, not only from a cost benefit, but also build quality, built-in lighting and a stout rear rack, ease of assembly (whoever pre assembled my bike dialed it in perfectly), and better than expected components. There seems to be a lot of competition in e-bikes right now. I took a chance on Ride1Up and glad I did. Grandpa’s “Battle Cruiser”.

Built to last and I’m in love with my cafe cruiser. quiet and speed is no problem on this bike.

I’m enjoying my new Cafe Cruiser immensely. Beautifully finished, solid construction and nicely appointed “extras” such as the built-in rear rack and lighting. I’m 6’ 2”, 200 pounds, and 71 years old, thought I’d never want an E-bike as I do a lot of casual riding but this bike sold me. Glad it did.

Perfect bike for 60 plus rider. My first E-bike. Delivery and assembly were perfectly smooth. Super comfortable upright ride keeps the smile going even after 20 miles. Whole experience… Perfect !

So I built my cafe cruiser today. I’ve had the thing for a while now. So here’s my review so far It’s packaged great. It will almost take longer to inbox it than to build it. That’s fine you wouldn’t want it showing up with issues due to shipping. The instructions are ok. It was easy to figure out when the instructions were lacking. I think we all know where the front fender goes and how to install the handle bars. There are some great videos online if you want to watch. The quality of the bike is insane. They don’t cut any corners. The craftsmanship shows while you’re building it. As for riding. I’ve built 1 mother home made e-bike. It didn’t have pedal assist. That takes a min to get used to but it’s easy. You can always shut it off and use the throttle or use a combo of pedal, throttle and assist. Thanks again and I will be purchasing another soon!

It’s a perfect fit. Great ebike. The shipping container did not prevent considerable paint damage. Although I was given an 80 refund, I would much rather have had a bike that looked like a new 1600 ebike.

As one person stated this bike is a beast. Very well built and durable riding on dirt. This is one of the best investments I’ve made and will change my life style. I am 68 so the extra boast is a blessing. The seat is comfortable and with a few other adjustments I was down the road. It is like riding and gliding down the road. I am re-locating from Sacramento to Cambria (Cali Central Coast) and will be my main transportation. I look forward in logging in some US 1 miles.

We love our electric bikes, we added the extra seat for child and the grands love it.

I have had my Cafe Cruiser for about a week. I love it! Everything worked when I assembled it; I did not need to tune anything. I can definitely see getting the miles per charge that they claim. I can comfortably do 20mph in PAS 4 on flat ground. I am in a rural beach area, it would be a commuting king in an urban area. I added a couple dodads, including my co-pilots, Quick and Quack. Have fun, ride safe!

I love it! hard to get five stars but easy 4.5. Quick shipping, easy assembly. I have about 300 miles on the bike only stranded once with dead battery, my fault left without charger. I have a 12.5 mike commute, on most days I could make the trip both ways on a single charge but I went about 5 miles out of the way and back so i figure a total of 35 miles that day on a single charge. Specs say 40 miles. Plenty fast at a great price, lots of compliments on the style, when I tell them I can do upwards of 28 plus mph and go 30 miles on a charge folks are shocked at this price point.

I am super happy with my Cafe Cruiser! It’s my second eBike. There is no comparison. It was a 71st birthday present to myself. My first bike was a mountain bike configuration, with straight handlebars. This puts too much weight on an old guy’s hands and wrists! With my Cruiser, I’m sitting upright with no undue stress anywhere. In the few weeks I’ve had her, I’ve gotten so many Комментарии и мнения владельцев and compliments! Some say it reminds them of a motorcycle, not a bicycle! The long wheelbase adds to that perception. Also, the step-thru frame is reminiscent of the old hard-tail Harleys. I love the “intermediate” size tires. The 4 inch tires are cumbersome, while the 2.75 mountain tires are a bumpy ride. The Cruiser’s 3 inch tires are the perfect compromise! The Cruiser has excellent hydraulic suspension and hydraulic brakes! These are usually found on more expensive bikes. Power isn’t an issue for me. I live on an island. There are no hills! This bike will go faster than I care to go on 2 wheels. But, it cruises perfectly at slower speeds, pedaling or nursing the throttle. Being able to use pedal assist AND throttle at the same time, is very handy. My previous bike, it was either/or. Folks, I don’t have adequate words of praise for this machine! It breaks the mold of “typical” eBikes…in terrific ways! Maybe you can tell…I’m a fan of the Ride1UP Cafe Cruiser!

Solid ride with lots of power to make it a fun bike.

Fantastic ebike for long rides. Seat is very comfortable and battery lasts for 30 plus miles. Looks great and motor has lot of juice to go over hills at great speed. We have already logged 300 miles in less than a month. Only issue we had was with shipping damaging the fork, hopefully ride1up can do better job with packaging. Their customer service was great and sent us replacement fork right away.

Introverts beware: buy the Ride1Up Cafe Cruiser, and be prepared to get stopped often by strangers and asked many questions about the ebike, the price, your experience riding it, etc. I’ve had to adjust to my role as an unwitting and unpaid Ride1Up spokesperson as an introvert. I’ve been holding my own, I think—but it does get exhausting. As for the questions I usually get, yes, assembly was fairly easy even for a bike novice like myself (the provided instructions were helpful, and some of the brief YouTube videos that were recommended were especially helpful). The price is reasonable. The shipping was quick. The bike looks cool. I’ve managed to put over 700 miles on the Cafe Cruiser in about a month. I added the rear seat, and take my kids on rides and even my spouse. No problems so far, no tire issues, no motor issues, no brake issues. As a class 3, the bike is peppy, and a single charge seems to easily reach the 30-50 mile range depending on throttle and assist. Minor gripes: the motor can surge a bit on very high pedal assist levels when initially engaged even at a low cadence (this may become a non-issue when you develop an overall feel for the bike), and some motor noise. Nothing crazy, but the bike is not dead silent—especially at high assist levels. Overall, I’m very happy and have been using our car a LOT less. So yes, I highly recommend this company and this bike. But I never expected so many conversations from random strangers and am adjusting to my newfound popularity as a Ride1Up ambassador.

I am really impressed with this bike. It is fast, convenient and enjoyable to ride. It came mostly assembled and was easy to get up and running. I built a crate on the back rack and use this for errands and some exercise, since we have had 40 days over 100 degrees I can ride without too much effort and enjoy the breeze. The crate folds down when I am not using it. I like the options for assist and use the headlight and tail light when it gets dark. I saw some feedback about the tires and bought MAXXIS. Hookworm BMX Tires 2.5 inch x 26 and they are really much better for grip, handeling, and the side walls are much thicker and will give better results for any type of puncture. They made a big difference is my confidence for turns and grip.

Just got my Cafe Cruiser! Bike arrived two days ago. shipping was pretty quick to CT! Carefully unpacked it and assembled. It is heavy and well built. I am switching from a Dillinger 1,000W conversion kit I installed on my high-end dual suspension aluminum Motobecane mountain bike nearly 10 years ago. This bike has at least the same power and more expected range (kit went about 22 miles) but is several pounds heavier despite a lighter Lithium/ion battery (kit was lead/acid). frame geometry is SO different from my old bike, but it is a LOT more comfortable for this 220lb, 53 year-old. Saddle had to be raised very high so that my knees were straighter, but also had to angle handlebars up so my knees didn’t hit them. Makes hands feel like they’re sliding forward a little. still tweaking the angle… If they made this in an X-large frame, I would’ve gotten it. But as I get used to the very different upright riding position, the power assist even on ‘2’ is quite brisk. Tingling hands and a sore butt after more than 2.5 hours of riding will be a thing of the past on this Cadillac of a bike. It will def need 2 people to put it on the tow-hitch bike rack, but now I am the ‘mule’, and will be expected to carry all the supplies leaving my wife’s bike lighter so she’ll have a prayer of keeping up. (Not likely, lol. this thing really moves!) Very happy with purchase and am already dreaming up long rails-to-trails adventures with or without her, lol!

I could not be happier with this bike. I had to wait a couple months for the blue color, but the wait was well worth it, absolutely beautiful. The frame is an awesome shape and the whole bike really just feels badass. Aside from the looks, the bike preforms even better than expected. Some of the other brands advertise 1000w motors and more advanced displays, but after hitting 31mph on a flat road, im not sure ID even want to go much faster than this bike is capable of. I also have not run into a hill the cruiser cant climb (with some peddling). This is my first ebike and this has definitely made me understand all the hype. They really allow you to dial in how much exercise you want to get, from a full workout to basically a motorcycle ride. For the value of this bike and everythring that is offered, im very happy i went with ride1up and the cafe cruiser for my first ebike. The only suggestion i would make to the company would be to include a spoke wrench as loose spokes seems to be a c

Sweet ride expecially for beach cruising in the wind! Never so happy!! Get a good sturdy lock!

Honestly I love this bike! 5/5. Here are some thoughts in no particular order: It’s larger than expected but that makes me feel safe on the road. I commute into work three days out of the week and only find myself charging overnight every two weeks. My only little annoyance is I find the bike taller than my legs are comfortable with (I am 5’4”) but the step thru option should fix that (I chose the higher bar for style reasons ha). My apartment’s bike rack is a little too small for this bike, the back tire sticks out of the slots and the wheels are too thick for the track. Measuring ahead of time would have been a Smart idea. Also as anyone with a ebike knows the battery is heavy, this bike is heavy, but I can still manoeuvre it without too many issues. And finally, I recommend getting a cheap door stopper because pulling this bike thru a heavy door that’s trying to close the entire time is a total pain. This is not the bikes fault of course but it is heavy enough to fight you a littl

Great looking bike with a ton of features for not a lot of money. Seems to be a really good company with great customer service.

Wow i am loving the crusier!! The is my first entry into the ebike market and it is so much fun to ride! The gearing is great and i can still get some good exercise in on the 1 and 2 power assist levels. Perfect commuter setup to bungee/strap things on the back or pop the people carrier seat on to get the wife or kids downtown. Good quality build and the value is really there at this price point. Thank you ride1up!!

Going on a month ownership now and I am more than satisfied. The bike was received in perfect condition. Easy to assemble and on the road within an hour of unboxing. Drove 200 miles the first week. The first inspection showed the bike to be almost perfectly tuned and calibrated. After researching many bikes I’m sure I made the right chop.

So far, so good. Amazing comfort! The weather has prevented a much needed long ride, but that’s coming soon. I was able to true the front wheel as there was a very slight wobble out of the box. Looking forward to many miles in the near future!

The only thing that has been disappointing is the tubes are not holding air. you sent me two new tube for one bike but I purchased 2.

Best Electric Motorcycles

Love them or hate them, electric motorcycles are fast becoming a reality. From daily commuters to enduro and race bikes, we’ve seen all kinds of electric bikes hit the road over the past couple of years, and it’s about time we accept that we’ll have to eventually switch to one soon too. Lucky for us, there’s a vast array of electric bikes catering to riders of all shapes, sizes, and kinds. Here are our top 15 picks in the e-motorcycle space.

Updated March 2023: New electric motorcycles seem to be popping up every month these days! In an effort to keep our readers up to date, we’re updating this article with all the latest and greatest models available on the market.

Sondors Metacycle

Sondors had recently made waves by dropping the pricing on the already affordable Metacycle by more than a few pennies. That’s an astonishing tactic in a market where most electric motorcycles cost more than your average Harley-Davidson. It’s a handsome bike, with some nifty features, like low seat height and weight.

The 60-mile range will get you to work and back, provided you’re not too heavy on the throttle. The brakes are a little bland and the rear shock may be inadequate, but even all those caveats aside, you simply can’t beat that price. And if all you’re doing is going to and from work, it may just be the best vehicle for you, hands down.

Super Soco TC

As much as we love high-performance bikes, an electric motorcycle will probably spend most of its life in the city. And, this is why the Super Soco TC is on our list. The Super Soco TC not only looks retro in a stylish way, but it also makes for a great commuter electric bike. With a top speed of 75 mph, it comes with a single or a double battery pack setup, claiming an impressive range of 78 Miles (with the dual battery setup), which is more than enough for city duties. Meanwhile, features like LED lights, an anti-theft alarm, keyless ignition, and a semi-digital instrument cluster top off the package. It’s pretty cheap, at approximately 4,140, but here comes the bad news. You can’t get it in the U.S.

Pursang E-Tracker

If the more modern styling excesses of electric motorcycles are too much for you (and your wallet won’t stretch to a Curtiss One!) and what you really feel you need is a flat-track-inspired electric bike, then the Pursang is the best ev motorcycle for you. Taking its name from an old Bultaco model, the Pursang E-Tracker is a relatively normal-looking electric motorcycle, featuring a tubular chrome-moly tubed frame and carbon-fiber bodywork.

The range is quoted as 74 miles, but recharge time is a bloated six hours, which rules it out for any sort of competition riding, if that was ever a goal. It boasts a full-color TFT display that shows speed, range, riding mode, engine power regeneration, and of course, battery life. It even features smartphone connectivity and can be connected via the Bosch mobile app. It’s now available in Europe for roughly 10,052.

Fuell Fllow

From the fertile engineering brain of Erik Buell comes the Fuell Fllow. Featuring a magnesium monocoque chassis and housing for the battery, the electric motor is housed in the rear wheel and produces a quite frankly astonishing 553 pound-feet of torque! Twist the throttle on this, and you don’t move forward, the earth rotates underneath you. The top speed is 85 mph (max sustained) and a range of 150 miles. Regenerative braking is employed, and using a CCS Type 2 charger gives you a full charge in 30 minutes. There is 1.76 cubic feet of storage in what used to be the fuel tank, which Fuell claims can take a full-face helmet and a soft bag. Unusually for Buell, he has not fitted the rim-mounted brake rotors that were such a feature on his gas-powered sport bikes.

Cake Kalk

The good thing about electric motorcycles is that there are plenty of start-up companies that are manufacturing new models that have no corporate design language to adhere to and the results are refreshingly different. Swedish company Cake set out to create the ultimate, spare-no-expense, lightweight, high-performance electric dirtbike. Having done this, it then turned its attention to a street-legal version.

The oddly-named Kalk is the result, and you could be forgiven for thinking it is a glorified bicycle, such is its skimpy design and construction. Skimpy it might be, but there is nothing skimpy about the specification: extruded, forged, and CNC-machined 6061 aluminum chassis, Öhlins suspension front and back, and bespoke forged and machined wheels. It’s not cheap, but if you are looking for personal transport that is light and agile, then the Cake might just be what you are looking for.

LiveWire Del Mar S2

Designed around a modular Arrow platform, the Del Mar is the first of a series of models that will be released in the coming years and is certainly aimed squarely at the mass market of electric bikes. The platform includes batteries, electronics, a motor, and can have different steering heads and swing arms bolted to it to create the different variants.

It is due to arrive in showrooms by the second half of 2023. The power output is a claimed 80 horsepower, while it weighs in at 431 pounds. The city range is expected to be 110 miles, with a 0-80% charge time in about 75 min.

Damon Hyperfighter

Do you like sporty naked motorcycles? Let us introduce you to the newly launched Damon Hyperfighter. Unveiled in early 2022, the Damon Hyperfighter is an epic all-electric naked motorcycle that has a rather striking design. This radical design is complemented by equally striking numbers including a peak power of 200 horsepower, 170 mph top speed, and a 146-mile claimed range. The bike also packs a unique Shift technology, that lets the rider adjust the handlebar and footpeg position on the fly, along with 360-degree cameras to warn the rider about potentially dangerous objects and vehicles.

Zero SR/F

Looking for a do-it-all e-motorcycle? Well, we believe it’s the Zero SR/F. Sure, its price of nearly 23,795 isn’t for everyone, but this is one of the most sought-after bikes out there. It comes equipped with a powerful motor-battery combo that has a claimed top speed and range of 124 mph and 187 miles (city) of range, respectively.

This ensures you’ll have plenty of power to have fun while steering clear of range anxiety. Then, you have high-quality underpinnings comprising fully adjustable Showa Big Piston forks and Showa monoshock, alongside Pirelli Rosso III tires. It also comes with all modern-day features like ride modes, TFT instrumentation, smartphone connectivity, LED lighting, and even a stability control from Bosch.

LiveWire One

The Harley-Davidson LiveWire features a likable design, which shouts Harley in its own special way while promising a familiar torquey riding experience, too. Of course, there is no glass-shattering rumble here, but you do get 100 horsepower and 84 pound-feet of torque, right on par with Harley’s ICE bikes. Plus, all this power is instantly available and monitored by a handful of electronics to ensure you stay upright.

The LiveWire boasts a claimed range of 146 miles and a top speed of 95 mph, both more than enough for most riders. One item to note is that Harley spun LiveWire out into its own company, and is now producing LiveWire One in addition to the previously mentioned Del Mar.

Tarform Luna

The main point of EVs is to offer a sustainable means of getting around and if that’s your motive too, it doesn’t get any more eco-friendly than the Tarform Luna. I say this because nearly 55-percent of the bike’s parts are 3D-printed from recycled materials like pineapple-leaf fibers and recycled aluminum. But, Tarform didn’t stop there and threw in an impressive motor and battery combo which gives the bike a claimed range of 120 miles and a top speed of 120 mph. Not to forget, this is accompanied by features like a circular digital instrument cluster with an HD display, all-LED lighting, three ride modes, a 180-degree rearview camera, keyless ignition, and smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

Evoke 6061

Rarely do we see electric cruiser bikes, but the Evoke 6061 happens to be one of them. However, this isn’t why it’s on this list. You see, the Evoke 6061, while being an e-cruiser, can also charge from zero to 80-percent in JUST 30 minutes! That’s just a quick lunch! Before you get suspicious, let us tell you that this isn’t a marketing gimmick achieved by using a tiny battery. In fact, the Evoke 6601 packs a huge 25 kWh battery, giving it a range of 410 miles (city), which is accompanied by a beefy 120kW motor.

Energica Ego

If you’re a sportbike fanatic who wants to go electric, the Energica Ego is probably THE best electric motorcycle for you. Not only does it offer sport bike-like performance, 170 horsepower and a limited top speed of 150mph, the Ego also has a claimed range of 261 miles which is a lot more than your ICE sport bike can manage. Along with this, the Energica Ego boasts top-shelf underpinnings comprising a trellis frame, cast aluminum wheels, Marzocchi USD forks, and Brembo brakes at both ends. Not to forget, the Ego was also used in the MotoE world championship up until last year, so it’s safe to say that the bike is well kitted-out to tackle a racetrack.

Verge TS Ultra

One important consequence of the rise of the electric motorcycle is that much of the early development has been undertaken by small, and until now, obscure companies that previously had no presence on the world motorcycling stage. This in turn has led to more innovative engineering solutions than you can shake a stick at.

The specs are quite astonishing: 885 pound feet of torque is delivered instantaneously directly to the road, with no power-sapping chains or cogs to get in the way. Nor does the motor require cooling fluids. Four ride modes configure the power delivery to suit your mood or riding requirements and 80-percent charge is available in 25 minutes with the optional DC fast charger and range is quoted as up to 233 miles.

BMW CE 04

BMW is taking a Smart approach as it dips its toe into the electric motorcycle pool. They know that electric motorcycles are best suited for city commuting, and what better motorcycle to use in an urban environment than a scooter. It’s loaded with premium features like large TFT display and large storage compartments. Its design aesthetic is futuristic. It comes with a 3-year BMW warranty and its pricing is not too shabby either, starting at 11,795. It’s built for urban commuters, with a range of 80 miles. You can pull up to work, plug it and have it ready to take you home when you’re done.

Arc Vector

Range anxiety is a major concern for most people planning to go electric. But, there’s a radical solution to it, and it’s called the Arc Vector. The bike offers a range of over 270 miles, and if you still happen to run out of charge, it can be juiced up in just 40 minutes. Apart from this, the bike has a top speed of 124 mph and can get to 60 mph in merely 3.2 seconds. The Arc Vector is built around a unique monocoque chassis featuring Öhlins TTX mono shocks and Brembo Stylema brakes at both ends, making the package ever-so-premium.

Energica Experia: Overall best electric motorcycle

When anyone brings up electric motorcycles, it’s easy to envision a dead battery cutting short the fun. Due to the logistical nightmare of squeezing large, heavy batteries onto a small frame, touring bikes have been out of the question.

Until now. Energica Experia is our top choice for an electric motorcycle as it’s gone somewhere others haven’t dared. It has the longest claimed range of any production motorcycle on the market, with up to 261 miles (420 km) of city driving on one charge.

But city driving isn’t the goal of touring. At highway speeds, the range is limited to 130 miles (209 km), but three different charging methods can get you back on the road in a hurry.

The Energica Experia has a great overall stance and handling, combined with a charming aerodynamic style. It is hands down the best electric motorcycle to hit the market.

Cake Kalk INK Electric Motorbike: Best value EV motorcycle

By mimicking the dual-sport motorcycle, Cake has created a cheap electric motorcycle that can silently sprint around trails. It started as an off-road-only model, but recent upgrades allow street legal use, registered as a 125cc bike in the USA and EU.

If you want something that’s not quite a full-size motorcycle yet not as compact as an electric bicycle, the Cake Kalk INK is a perfect choice. It’s lightweight and nimble, yet still able to deliver some power when you want it.

The Cake Kalk INK incorporated three ride modes that adjust speed and power to provide different levels of battery range. Another three braking modes can perfectly adjust what happens when you lift off the accelerator to match your conditions.

BMW CE 04: Best premium electric motorbike

If there’s one brand that’s no stranger to bringing advanced electric variants to the streets, BMW deserves some credit. The German automaker introduced futuristic-looking EVs over a decade ago and continues to reshape the automotive and motorcycle industries with new platforms.

The BMW CE 04 is not your average motorcycle. Its low-slung shape with an elongated bench seat might remind you of a modified jetski out of water. But that’s far from the truth.

The reality is that this beast utilizes a compact yet powerful motor that pairs with a thin battery pack. This leaves you plenty of room for seating two passengers or extra gear, plus a sizable storage compartment that helps make practical daily use a breeze.

The BMW CE 04 takes a giant step forward in electric motorcycle evolution. Are you ready to take the leap?

It takes time to perfect any craft. And with over a decade of EV motorcycle production under its belt, Zero is staying ahead of the pack in many ways.

The Zero FX is most at home on the trails, where it will let you FOCUS on finding the right line while cruising through nature. But it’s a jack of all trades. You can throw it around city streets with just as much enthusiasm as your off-road adventures.

The chassis is built from aircraft aluminum and has been shaved down over many years of production, providing one of the best power-to-weight ratios on the market. Simply put, the Zero FX electric sports bike will blow your mind regardless of the conditions under the tires.

Onyx RCR Electric Motorbike: Best electric street bike

It’s a bird… it’s a plane. No, it’s the Onyx RCR electric street bike. Fitting precisely into no category, this sleek offering straddles the line between an e-bike and an electric motorcycle.

One thing’s for certain. The Onyx RCR brings back nostalgia with its cafe-racer looks and woodgrain decals. It’s available in two different models, one designed for street use and one for trail riding. You can also customize battery packs, suspension heights, and paint colors.

This E motorcycle is much more suitable for slower speeds, and the street-legal mode only goes up to 20 mph (32 km/h). But as an affordable electric street bike, this can win over your heart with one quick ride.

Vespa Elettrica: Best electric scooter

Kleenex, Google, Band-Aid. Few brands are so iconic that their trademarked product name takes over the generic term. When it comes to scooters, Vespa is the name of the game and has been since the 1940s.

Today’s Vespas aren’t like that of the past. While the exterior design might have you think otherwise, the Vespa Elettrica uses a fully electric drivetrain to make getting a town an absolute joy.

The power is on the lower end of the scale, but you won’t notice thanks to the respectable 148 lb-ft of instant torque. The inboard display seamlessly connects to your phone. And you have your choice of six stylish colors to make this electric motorcycle scooter your own.

If you don’t care about the Vespa brand name, check out the Piaggio 1. This cheaper alternative is based on the same platform and has similar performance.

Lightning LS-218: Fastest electric motorbike

Some electric motorcycles are meant for city streets or off-road trails. But when it comes to the Lightning LS-218, there is one thing it seeks most of all. The wide-open road.

While the Voxan Wattman is technically the fastest motorcycle, it’s not approved for street use. On the other hand, the Lightning LS-218 can charge down the road at a blistering 218 mph or more, all while silently slipping through the tarmac.

The cost of this powerful E motorcycle is magnitudes more than most bikes, but it has every right to charge the premium. Its incredible design brings out the best in sports bike styling, while the range, acceleration, and top speed are all at the top of the game.

Livewire S2 Del Mar: Best electric street bike for tech lovers

Harley Davidson’s image doesn’t blend well with the electric motorcycle revolution. But the brand’s spinoff EV motorcycle group, Livewire, is doing all it can to show Harley riders that electric motorbikes are the way of the future. And the S2 Del Mar has grabbed the spotlight.

At first glance, it’s mostly what you’d expect from a modern Harley bike. It’s a robust motorcycle that has only a few cues indicating the electric platform, most notable are the heat transfer fins flanking the bike.

But this isn’t Livewire’s first take. It’s a more nimble, lighter, and less expensive version of the Livewire ONE, yet it still has all the power and fun you could want.

The exclusive Del Mar Launch Edition S2 features an exclusive paint scheme and wheel design, but the regular production models are sure to impress with looks just as much as the legendary Harley Davidson ride, even if it doesn’t rumble as you’d expect.

Evoke 6061: Fastest charge electric motorbike

Battery electric vehicles have one serious disadvantage. When they run out of juice, it can be a long time before they’re ready to hit the road again.

The Evoke 6061 turns that idea about-face. By using a 336-volt battery pack, it can recharge up to 80% in 15 minutes. Just enough time for you to shake off any road fatigue, refuel your body, and hop back on.

This hand-assembled new electric motorcycle pleases the eye with its minimalistic design that puts the aluminum twin-plate frame in the spotlight. But the real treat comes when you turn the throttle. The impressive 160-horsepower motor rockets up to 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds.

The Evoke 6061 is making waves in the electric motorcycle segment. And for good reason.

The Super Soco TC might not be the most powerful electric motorcycle on the road, but its cafe-racer-inspired shape brings back fond memories as it glides down the road. The affordable price tag, removable battery packs, and comfortable riding position make it an excellent choice for short commutes or joy rides.

The graceful design elements do an incredible job of merging new-world technology with classic styling. It has a large display between the bars and an oversized LED headlight placed front and center. It’s pure joy to ride and look at.

Bonus: The upcoming electric motorcycles we’re most excited about

What’s that we see glinting on the horizon? Oh, just the hottest electric motorcycles hitting the market very soon:

  • Switch Scrambler – Make it yours: the Switch Scrambler is totally customizable, and whatever style choices you make, you can be sure it’ll look slick. It’s currently in the ABS testing phase and will be heading for full production later in the year.
  • DAB Concept-E – One for the tech-fiends, the DAB Concept-E offers incredibly high-end components for a seamless experience. The slightly smaller-than-average battery means this one’s better for short-range city-riding rather than long journeys.
  • Husqvarna E-Pilen – This electric motorcycle for adults is still in its conceptual phase, but it’ll be all the better for it. With a vroom-vroom aesthetic and plans for whippet-like speeds, the Husqvarna E-Pilen is certainly one to keep your eye on. Look out for full production within the next 2 years.

Advantages and disadvantages of electric motorcycles

Electric motorcycles have many advantages. Ease of maintenance, instant torque, and whisper-quiet noise levels are some of the top benefits.

But there are some disadvantages to electric motorbikes too. The main issues to consider are the limited range, charging time and infrastructure, and potential battery replacement needs.

The electric motorcycle that’s best for you

powerful than an electric bicycle, lower profile than an electric car: If you’re looking for a sustainable vehicle that’s a good all-around compromise between the two, you can’t go wrong with an electric motorcycle. In particular, they’re usually more cost-effective than an electric car – and they generally feature shorter recharge times, which is a definite plus.

If you’re looking to purchase an electric motorbike, there are a couple of features you should pay close attention to. These include:

  • Range. As an EV, an electric motorbike does have a specific maximum distance that it can travel before you’re going to need to find a way to recharge. If you are using your electric motorcycle mainly for commuting, you may be able to select a bike with a lower range and prioritize other features. If you’re planning on adventuring further away from home, it might be a good idea to select one with a larger range – such as the Damon Hypersport Premier.
  • Comfort. Motorcycles aren’t known for being the most comfortable of vehicles, but if you’re planning on riding it a lot, a little comfort will go a long way. Check to see what the seat is made of, whether the pedals are adjustable, and if the shocks of your future bike promise a bump-free ride.
  • Safety. Motorcycles have gotten poor press in the past for their lack of safety features. The modern EV motorbike market is compensating for this with new high-tech safety features each year, such as 360-degree cameras and Smart rider assistance. If you’re at all worried about your safety while you’re zipping around on your motorbike, it’s a good idea to invest in a high-tech motorcycle that has these options.

We ranked each of these motorcycles, combing through reviews and testimonials until we had a ranking that we were ready to share. Finally, we picked one element from each bike to emphasize to award each a title as winner of a specific category.
