52V electric bike.

First of all, the most common and popular voltage for high-end e-bikes and ebike kits is 48V or 52V. This is different then most lower-cost ebikes and ebike kits which run off 36V. This can also differ by sales region since in the United States 48V 52V is the standard while in Europe 36V is the standard. Lower voltage batteries are cheaper but the main difference between lower and higher voltage batteries are that the higher the voltage the better the power and performance!

Note: Our Mid Drive motors are compatible with with both 48V or 52V batteries however our Front hub motors only work with 48V batteries.

Why would you choose a 52V battery over a 48V battery?

range. 52V batteries when compared against 48V batteries with the same rated Ah will have more range as they have a larger battery capacity (Watt-hours rating).

Power. 52V batteries can provide more power to a motor when the motor needs it. 52V batteries also provide a better voltage range for the motor to operate in when compared with 48V battery.

Efficient. 52V Batteries can allow your motor to run at a lower current (amp) draw when operating at the same conditions when compared to a 48V battery. This can help reduce the amount of heat being built up in the motor and reduce overheating and premature failure

Versatile. 52V batteries will provide better performance than a 48V battery when used in cold weather

Why you may not need 52V battery and a 48V battery maybe enough?

You are not needing any additional power for offroading or climbing steep hills and you are just looking to do city riding and commuting.

The key…

The 52V is more effective, meaning better performance.

The reason is that a 52V e-bike battery provides greater efficiency using fewer amps generating the same or better power for your bike.

A 52V e-bike battery provides a faster speed to the motor than a 48V.

One of the most important differences is related to the range, a 52V e-bike battery offers a range wider than a 48V.

A 52V battery fresh off the charger will produce almost 59 V while a 48V battery will produce around 54.5V.

Putting Together Battery Voltage and Motor Operation

Keep in mind that BBS02 and BBSHD Mid Drive motor controllers can take a range of voltages from 40V to 59V, so clearly these units perform better at the higher end of the range however if the voltage drops so will the power.

As a battery drains and the voltage drops a rider will experience that they are no longer be getting the same power from the motor which will also be noticeable with the throttle lag. This difference in power will be more noticeable with a 48V battery than with a 52V battery.

Which is the best battery to get?Unfortunately, it is not that easy as ebike battery packs are in no way a one size fits all item which is why we offer so many different battery options! Ariel Rider Kepler Review: The Most Powerful Fat Tire Ebike?

Powerful electric bikes are synonymous with the Ariel Rider brand. It’s a strategy that has resulted in a large following for those seeking a thrill when hopping on an electric bike. After focusing on moped-style ebikes (Ariel Rider X-Class, D-Class and Grizzly) and even budget-priced ebikes (Rideal), Ariel Rider is out with a full-sized fat tire ebike. Enter the Ariel Rider Kepler.

Ariel Rider Kepler Pricing

We’ll get into the specs further in this review, but first let’s talk pricing. At 1,799 Ariel Rider is taking a shot at many budget-priced fat tire ebikes while offering better specs. Even at the non-sale price of 1,999, the Ariel Rider Kepler is a good, even great value. You can check current pricing on the Kepler here.

Motor and Battery

Most people looking at Ariel Rider ebikes care about two things: the motor and battery. And in true Ariel Rider fashion, they maximized both. The Ariel Rider Kepler comes with a custom 1,000 watt motor that peaks at 1,800 watts. There’s no word on the exact top speed just yet (advertised as 32 mph) but this ebike will certainly test the limits of how fast some riders want to ride. Suffice to say this ebike ignores any sort of Class II or Class II ebike regulations in the US.

Powering the motor is a class-leading 52V 20 Ah battery (1040 watt-hours). Ariel Rider advertises a range of up to 75 miles. While this might be a bit of a stretch estimate there’s no question that this ebike will provide plenty of range even if you intend to lean heavily on the right-hand twist grip throttle. For those curious, the Kepler boasts a 33 amp controller.

Rounding out the electrical components is a color LCD with a USB plug to charge your devices. Like many budget-priced ebikes, the motor is engaged with a cadence sensor pedal assist (or a throttle of course) that has 5 modes of pedal assist.

Ariel Rider did a nice job rounding out decent components on the Kepler. Perhaps most important are the brakes on an ebike that can reach speeds over 30 mph. The hydraulic Tektro HD-E 350 with 180 mm rotors will provide plenty of stopping power. These are our favorite hydraulic brakes on ebikes at the sub 2000 price point.

In the rear is a 7-Speed Shimano Altus deraileuer which is relatively basic, but popular choice among ebike brands in the 1000-2000 price range. At the handlebars is a simple Shimano thumb shifter.

While it certainly will be difficult to avoid “ghost pedaling” as this ebike reaches higher speeds, Ariel Rider did include a larger 52 tooth front chainring. This will allow you to provide more of your own power at faster speeds and is a nice touch from Ariel Rider.

Up front is a 80 mm Zoom Fork with preload and lockout adjustments. To customize riding position Ariel Rider was sure to add an adjustable stem. This allows riders to be in a more upright riding position if they choose.

And finally, this is a fat tire ebike so the tires are 26″ x 4″ CST BFT tires. View the full specs on the Ariel Rider Kepler.

Frame Design

The Kepler frame is a similar design to what we’ve seen on Himiway and Magicycle electric bikes. Due to the sleekness of the battery, it melts nicely into the frame (especially on the black-colored Kepler). It’s also offered in a high step and low step. Fat tire ebikes tend to be large bikes so my recommendation would be to purchase the low-step if you’re on the shorter side. For those looking to stand out, the low step is even offered in pink! (view all of the color options) A comparison of the high step vs low step frames is below – simply drag the slider.

Kepler Accessories

If you’re looking for extra cargo capacity, Ariel Rider has you covered. The Ariel Rider Kepler comes with a rear rack and you can purchase not one, but two baskets (69 each) that attach to the rear rack. If that’s not enough room, you can purchase a front rack or even a front basket. You’ll also find included front and rear fenders as well as a headlight and taillight which run off the Kepler battery.

The Ariel Rider Kepler is going to speak to ebike enthusiasts who crave power. The 52V 20Ah battery will help make sure you don’t run out of battery too quickly and the rest of the components either meet or exceed what you might expect from a 1,800 electric bike. The Kepler stays true to the Ariel Rider DNA and they’ve certainly set themselves apart from the many other fat tire ebikes on the market today.

No doubt e-bikes have brought in new dynamics for all casual commuters, working professionals, adventurers, cycling enthusiasts, etc. That’s why the demand for ebike is increasing excessively.

However, their batteries and it’s charging have become the most concerning query of all. One of the most frequently asked questions is how long to charge a 52V ebike battery in order to maintain its health and increase its lifespan.

But, Why 52v ebike battery only? Because it’s mostly used in high-powered e-bikes such as 750w and above. Hence, knowing the working of a battery like its charging time, what are the expenses, maintenance, and similar questions are very important.

If you have a 48v ebike battery, I have already covered how long to charge a 48-volt electric bike battery with various AHs. Don’t miss to read. This article aims to FOCUS on the 52v ebike battery charging time and also cover all answers to the frequently asked questions by riders. Let’s begin.

Introduction to 52-Volt Ebike Battery

An e-bike battery, especially a 52V one has a higher level of power and capacity to provide as compared to a 36V or 48V battery. It can store more energy if you increase the AH, which means it can power an e-bike for a longer distance and provide more power to the motor, learn more.

over, the charging time for a 52V e-bike battery can vary depending on the battery’s capacity (AH) and charging rate. Where it can take several hours to charge the battery fully, but some fast chargers can reduce the charging time significantly.

How Long to Charge a 52V Ebike Battery | Factors Affecting 52V Ebike Battery Charging Time

As I have already mentioned that a 52v battery on ebikes is great and powerful and comes with different AHs starting from 15 Ah to 40 Ah. Battery with higher AH takes long hours to charge and vice-versa.

Apply this formula to calculate the charging time for a 52v ebike battery:

Charging time = Battery’s AH/Charger Amp

For instance, a 52v battery with a 20Ah capacity and a charger of 4 Amps. Let’s calculate how long will it take to charge using the above formula:

Charging time = 20 Ah / 4 Amp = 5 hours

As you can see a 52-volt electric bike battery takes around 5 hours when charged with a 4 amp charger. If you increase the charger amps, the charging time will reduce and vice-versa.

Let’s see some important factors that affect 52V ebike battery charging time.

Charging Voltage

A 52V ebike battery requires a charger with a minimum output of a charging voltage of 58.8 volts. This is because the battery has a nominal voltage of 52V, but requires a slightly higher voltage for charging.

Because a fully charged 52v battery has a voltage of around 58 volts. So if you don’t charge the battery with a compatible charger, it will take long hours to charge it as well as it may damage the battery internally.

Charging Time

When it comes to the charging time for a 52V electric bike battery, it can vary depending on the battery’s capacity (Ah) and the charging rate of the charger. AH stands for Amp-hour of the battery which is considered as the fuel tank.

Charging time = Battery’s AH/Charger Amp

For eg: 20 Ah/4 Amp = 5 hours

52v battery with higher Ah will take long hours to charge and vice-versa. Therefore, a 52-volt battery can take anywhere between 4-8 hours to fully charge in order to last you for one long ride.

Charging Current

For a 52V e-bike battery it gets essential to use a charger that lies within the charging current range either by calculating the capacity or as specified by the manufacturer. Additionally, it should be noted that charging at a higher rate can hold your battery at damaging risk. So don’t do that!

Charge Indicator

In order to make your job easy and to ensure you charge your 52V e-bike battery at a correct and consistent rate we advise using a charge indicator that shows you the current level of the battery. Hence, allowing you to monitor the charging process.

Charging Cycles

A 52V lithium-ion battery has a limited number of charge cycles before it starts to degrade and lose capacity. It’s important to avoid overcharging or undercharging the battery, as this can reduce its lifespan and overall performance.

Charger Cost

This has to be one of the “often overlooked” factors. It is evident that a 52V e-bike charger is expensive. However, there are some cheap chargers available in the market as well but branded chargers have high quality and take standard time to charge the battery without affecting the battery.

Overall, a 52V e-bike battery can provide higher performance and a longer range compared to lower-voltage batteries, but it’s important to use a compatible charger and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure safe and optimal charging

Type of Ebike Battery Chargers Their Charging Speed

Depending on your convenience and your e-bike there are multiple chargers available in the market that you can resort to for charging your 52V battery.

Hence, let’s see what options you get and how long it takes to fully charge your 52V ebike battery.

Standard ChargerFast ChargerPortable ChargerUniversal Charger
The charging output offered is around 58.8 Volts. Even after having the same voltage of 58.8, fast chargers are designed to charge at a higher rate than a standard one. This is one of the smaller, lightweight options for charging your 52V e-bike battery with a voltage of 48V. If you have multiple batteries and e-vehicles then this is probably the best charger for you since it is designed for different-volt batteries.
In a standard charger, the current generated is around 2-5 amps. The charging current is 5 to 10 amps, which helps in the same efficient charging. Being a smaller charger the charging current range is comparatively lower, say 1 to 3 amps. It typically has a voltage of 50V and a current range of 5 to 8 amps.
The overall time taken by a standard charger to fully charge your 52v e bike battery is 4 to 8 hours. Having a higher current range helps bring down the charging time to 2 to 4 hours. The charging time, when you are using a portable charger, depends highly on the capacity of your battery. However, the charging duration for a 52V e-bike battery will take around 3 to 5 hours.

Additionally, what type of charger you should use for minimizing the time taken to charge fully also depends on the type of e-bike you are using like MTBs, hybrid e-bikes, and so on. Thus, we recommend consulting the manufacturer of not only the e-bike battery but also the e-bike.
