The Mental Health Reform Project is currently in the process of planning the implementation of its public education campaign “Treasure Minds” for the year 2010-2011. In 2009 – 2010, the campaign raised awareness of mental health/mental illness and sort to de-stigmatize mental health treatment. As part of this Campaign three public service announcements for television in both English and Creole was launched. This year, the Campaign focus in on “Depression”, with the aim of raising awareness of the symptoms and encouraging early intervention and treatment. As part of the calendar of activities, the month of June 2010 has been specially set aside to target employers and civil service organizations.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health would like to encourage members to include the following seminar “Depression Among Employees: The Hidden Cost” in your organization’s calendar of activities. The program can be tailored to best suit your organization’s needs with regard to the length, date and exact time of the seminar. For example, the seminar may be conducted at a special time set aside for this purpose, or included as part of your regular meetings.
