Zoomo E Bike Renting: How it Works What To Expect

than a year after the onset of the health crisis, we can say that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed many things in our lives including the way we shop, the way we work, travel, pay and protect ourselves.

The pandemic and especially the lockdowns most of us had to navigate changed the perspective we have on the world and the environment. As a result, businesses, governments and individuals are more motivated than ever to identify solutions to address the climate crisis.

As illustrated by their growing success, delivery services offer great convenience and user experience but a major drawback often lies in the related environmental impact. In this article you will learn everything you have to know about Zoomo, the company that creates a culture of eco-friendly transportation and transforms the delivery business into sustainable delivery services.

The ebike subscription company helps individuals and delivery partners make eco-friendly choices, without having to commit to making an expensive electric bicycle purchase. It also helps gig workers increase their earnings by avoiding car-related expenses and delivering with ebikes instead.

What Is Zoomo (Formerly Called Bolt Bikes)

Zoomo is an Australian startup founded in Sydney, Australia in 2017 by Arwin Soetanto, Michael Johnson, Mina Nada.

In the early stages of Zoomo, the founders would purchase electric bikes, modify them to transform them into the best electric bikes for delivery, and rent them out to gig economy workers in the food delivery industry.

Today Zoomo is a successful subscription-based rental service that enables individuals and delivery drivers to secure a light and reliable electric vehicle and ride for delivery services. Zoomo partners with Doordash for the DashCorps E-Bike program.

Examples of light electric vehicles available on the platform include:

pathfinder, zoomo, ebike, battery

Basically, the start-up provides electric bicycles and mopeds equipped with the latest software and hardware technologies through a monthly subscription, available to gig workers of different industries such as food delivery, grocery delivery, last mile parcel delivery and retail delivery.

Zoomo also signed several agreements with restaurant chains (Domino’s pizza, etc.) and food delivery companies like Uber Eats and Deliveroo and is helping them reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality.

The start-up is headquartered in Sydney (Australia), and has recently raised 60 million in funding as it prepares to expand in the US and conquer the European market.

The Series B round is a mix of debt and equity with half the equity of the increase led by Grok Ventures, the investment firm of Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes, with Skip Capital, the company of Atlassian’s other co-founder, Scott Farquhar, among other participants.

Where Are Zoomo E Bikes Available?

Zoomo ebikes are currently available in three continents:

North America (United States Of America)

In the United States the electrical bike rental is currently available in major cities like L.A., San Francisco, Philadelphia and New York City. The full list of cities where you can rent an e-bike with Zoomo include:

  • New York City
  • San Francisco
  • Los Angeles
  • Philadelphia
  • Seattle (coming soon)
  • Boston (coming soon)

How Zoomo Is Different From Other Micro Mobility Services

Pay As You Go micro mobility services have sprouted up in many cities around the world. These programs allow you to pick up and unlock a vehicle with your smartphone in seconds.

In our bike sharing blog, we encourage our readers to use sustainable transportation means.

However, ‘all that glisters is not gold’, and there are disadvantages of bike sharing programs. Especially when it comes to side hustlers. Bike sharing is usually not the right solution for gig workers. It can be really expensive with high unlock fees and it is not reliable: bicycles might not be available for use in the docking stations and you might have to walk for a while before you are able to pick up a bike.

Unlike bike sharing companies, with Zoomo you will have your own ebike and you will always be ready for your bike delivery job.

In this article, we have rounded up some of the pros of the e bike rental program in order to help you decide if this is the right offer for you based on your needs and circumstances.

Flexibility

The Zoomo membership gives users total flexibility with no commitment. It’s simple to sign up and start riding.

Additionally, you can turn your membership on or off whenever you want on a weekly basis.

Cheaper Overhead

It’s no secret that buying an electric bike is not cheap. The cost of an e bike can vary widely starting from 700 and up to over 7000. Since you are not using your bike for daily commute but with your delivery job, you will shortly realize that you cannot buy the cheaper model. In addition, the monthly cost of your membership will be typically lower than a traditional loan payment.

Customer Support

When looking for an ebike you will need to consider the cost of the bike itself but also the maintenance costs. Components of electric bikes such as the motor or the battery can wear out.

With Zoomo you do not have to worry about your bike’s maintenance as they offer convenient 24/7 customer support.

Notifying Zoomo that your bike has been stolen and having them look for it on your behalf is all that is required to retrieve it thanks to the GPS tracking feature of the Zoomo Sport.

Using Zoomo Delivery Ebikes

At Bestreferraldriver, we are a community of delivery drivers. Many of us made the choice to ride a bike instead of driving a car. It is cheaper, healthier and more sustainable as it helps reduce air pollution. Here are some of the undeniable reasons why e bike delivery is better than car delivery.

Earn Money

Zoomo will help you make more money. From a delivery driver point of view, there are several non-negligible perks of riding a bike. Doordash drivers and Uber Eats delivery partners are independent contractors. Unfortunately, not all delivery drivers are prepared for the hidden costs associated with being a delivery driver.

Using your car you have to upgrade your car insurance in business insurance, you are responsible for your car maintenance, wear and tear and the most important point you have to pay for the gas of your vehicle.

Of course you can try to limit these expenses by using a gas cash back app, finding cheap gas or even driving with fuel efficient techniques.

While you can use the standard IRS mileage deduction (for the 2021 tax year, that rate is 56 cents/mile), since November 3 2021, the average price per gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. has skyrocketed by 75 cents. Depending on your vehicle, delivery can even become not worth it at all.

Your Zoomo bike can go at speeds ranging from 18 to 25 miles per hour, allowing you to fulfill deliveries swiftly and effectively.

Parking Is Easier

Picking up food with a car in downtown areas can be a nightmare. Using an electric e bike, the days of circling around the restaurant trying to find a place are over.

How Much Does A Zoomo Bike Cost?

If you are looking for an electric bike for food delivery jobs you are at the right place. The price of ebikes on the Zoomo platform varies depending on the rental plan you choose. As you will see, Zoomo is frequently a more affordable experience compared to many of the e-bike rentals.

Your weekly membership fee always includes the e bike rental, maintenance services and more.

Summarizing: here is what your monthly membership fee includes:

pathfinder, zoomo, ebike, battery
  • The rental of your own ebike
  • Access to 24/7 support
  • Battery charger
  • Phone holder (Subject to availability)
  • Phone USB port for charging on the go
  • Secure U-lock
  • Full maintenance customer support
  • Safety induction

Though using Zoomo as a more affordable bike rental option is certainly a good use right now, the real fun starts at 35 to 49 per week.

While all the plans allow you to use your electric bike for business and personal use, one of the main differences between the various plans is the number of miles you are allowed to ride.

Let’s look at the cost details and what’s included in the various plan options.

Lite Plan Price

The Lite Plan offered by Zoomo is intended for riders who are new to riding electric bikes or commuters who wish to test out the company’s services.

This plan has a weekly distance limit of 80 miles.

The Lite Plan is available for 20 a week.

Flex Plan Price

The Flex Plan is ideal for those who drive greater distances to and from work, such as part-time e bike couriers or commuters.

The Flex Plan costs 35 per week and has a weekly distance limit of 150 miles.

Pro Plan Price

The Pro Plan, which includes unlimited weekly miles, is intended for full-time couriers.

Those who work in the food or grocery delivery industry and put in long hours and drive a significant distance do not want to be limited by mileage limits.

With the Pro Plan, you may rent an extra battery for as little as 20 per week.

This plan is available for 49 per week.

Instant Delivery And Sustainability

During the pandemic, consumers had to pivot and adopt new habits. According to statistics, consumers have become more digital and prefer to buy online.

With supply and demand only increasing, transportation companies, subcontractors and the entire distribution ecosystem are under increasing pressure to find a balance and make last mile deliveries a new eco-friendly and socially acceptable model.

Time, cost, comfort and sustainability are all key factors of the delivery process.

The most sustainable food delivery services have already made progress in driving forward the use of electric vehicles across their networks. JustEat Takeaway.com is a perfect example of companies promoting more sustainable ways of doing business.

The company, which is the result of the merger of JustEat and Takeaway.com in 2020, has set ambitious carbon reduction targets and aims at achieving carbon neutrality for its direct operations as soon as 2030. But JustEat Takeaway.com wants to go further and has set a number of great initiatives for its couriers.

As a result, Just Eat Takeaway.com has already made progress in driving forward the use of electric vehicles across its network. For example, in certain jurisdictions, couriers can take part in lease schemes of e-bikes, e-scooters, and bikes. Alongside this, the business is supporting partner restaurants to deliver sustainably and become green companies.

The Ultimate Guide to e-Bike Battery Care in Winter

For many, Christmas season is a time to kick back, relax and be astounded at how quickly the year has gone by. However, for business owners, entrepreneurs and independent contractors such as delivery riders, it’s one of the busiest times of the year as consumers rush to order last minute gifts, groceries and food in preparation for their holiday festivities.

As a delivery rider, the last thing you want happening during this period is for something to go wrong with your e-bike battery (knock on wood). presenting you with a very costly period of downtime, while others are out taking the jobs that could have been yours. Which is why today, we will cover the best ways to take care of your e-bike battery in winter, to ensure it stays in peak form all throughout the season.

The effects of cold temperatures on e-bike batteries.

Maybe you’ve experienced this before on your e-bike, or perhaps you’ve taken your camera or phone out in freezing weather and all of a sudden it goes from full charge down to zero in an instant. Now there is a reason for this and to understand why this occurs, let’s take a look at what is happening inside the battery when it’s operating in such low temperatures.

  • Batteries work by turning chemical energy into electrical energy. When connected to a circuit, chemical reactions inside the battery create a buildup of electrons at the negative terminal, which naturally want to flow through the circuit to the positive terminal, providing power to anything hooked up to it.
  • Batteries, including the lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries commonly found in e-bikes, typically perform optimally at room temperature, or between 15°C and 35°C (59°F and 95°F).
  • When the temperature falls from 25°C down to.15°C (77°F to 5°F), the maximum state of charge (available capacity relative to the maximum possible charge of the battery) of Li-ion batteries drops by up to 23%; and when cooled to temperatures as low as.40°C (-40°F) the power and energy densities of certain Li-ion batteries can decrease by up to 95%!
  • This is due to the fact that in low temperatures the chemical process inside the battery slows down, leading to a reduced charge transfer rate and lower overall capacity.
  • What this means in a real life application such as riding an e-bike, is that in cold weather you will likely see a decrease in total battery capacity, decreased performance and increased battery drain.

To put this in perspective, an Australian insurance company attended to over 400,000 calls for flat car batteries in the winter of 2020, and Australian winters are nowhere near as harsh as some areas of the US or Europe! Granted, most car batteries use an older style lead-acid battery, however the same principles apply here to Li-ion batteries as well.

How to take care of your e-bike battery in cold temperatures.

So, now that we understand why batteries tend to fail in colder temperatures, what is the best way to take care of your battery and make sure your e-bike stays healthy throughout the winter?

  • Don’t store or leave your battery outside for extended periods of time. always bring it inside to room temperature where possible
  • Charge your battery indoors at room temperature if charging to full capacity
  • Never use a fast charger on the battery when it is exposed to cold weather
  • Never put your battery in front of a heater to warm up, let it naturally come back to room temperature
  • Expect reduced range in cold conditions

On Zoomo e-bikes, you may see an error code “B07” appear on your display after prolonged use in cold weather. This is by design and has been implemented to turn off the battery to protect it and ensure optimal lifespan and performance. You will need to bring the battery back to room temperature to turn it back on.

So, if you have been concerned about your battery performance in the cold or are hesitant to use your e-bike in winter, follow these tips and tricks to get the most out of your e-bike; and ride further and earn more this Christmas season.

Happy holidays and happy riding!

Why Is My Ebike Battery Flashing Blue (Explained)

An ebike battery is typically a lithium-ion battery that powers an electric bike. The batteries are usually mounted in the rear hub of the bike and provide power to the motor. When a battery is flashing blue, it may mean that there is a problem with the battery.

There could be a few reasons why your ebike battery is flashing blue. The most common reason is that the battery is dangerously low and needs to be recharged as soon as possible. If you’re not sure if your battery needs to be recharged, you can check the voltage level by using a volt meter. If it’s below 3.7 volts, then it needs to be recharged.

Additionally, if your ebike isn’t being used for an extended period of time, the battery may start to lose its charge over time. To prevent this from happening, always make sure your ebike is plugged in and used regularly.

Why Is My Ebike Battery Flashing Blue

When an ebike battery is charging, it will likely flash blue. This is because during the charging process, the battery’s cells are being filled with electricity at a Rapid pace. The blue light is simply a warning that the battery is getting too full and could potentially burst if not discharged properly.

What is the meaning of the blue light flashing on my electric bike battery

Electric bikes are becoming more popular, especially in urban areas. They are great for short trips around town, but they can also be used for longer rides if the battery is recharged frequently.

The blue light on a battery indicates that it is low on power. This can be caused by a number of things, including running out of juice while you are riding, not charging the battery often enough, or having a faulty electric bike battery.

If your electric bike battery is flashing blue and you think it might be low on power, it is best to recharge it as soon as possible.

How Can I Tell If My Ebike Battery Is Low On Power

If your ebike battery is flashing blue, it may be low on power. To determine if your battery is in need of a charge, you can try checking the voltage and seeing if it falls below 3.7V. If it does, it’s time to recharge your battery.

How Often Should I Charge My Ebike Battery

You should charge your electric bike battery as often as possible. Recharging the battery will help to keep it operational and increase its lifespan. You can charge your battery using a standard home charger or an electric bike charging station.

How can I avoid the blue light flashing on my electric bike battery

When an electric bike battery is charging, a blue light will typically flash to indicate that it is working. This light will usually stop flashing once the battery is fully charged.

However, some electric bikes may continue to flash blue until the battery is completely drained. This behavior is due to a limitation in the design of some ebike batteries. When the battery reaches 0% charge, it will continue to try and charge even when the blue light has stopped flashing.

This can lead to the battery being overcharged and eventually damaged. To avoid this problem, make sure your electric bike batteries are fully charged before you start riding and always disconnect your bike from the charging cable when you’re finished.

Can the flashing blue light on an ebike battery be fixed

Ebike battery flashing blue could mean a few things. If the light is blinking quickly, it could mean that there is a low battery. If the light stays on constantly or flashes in a pattern, it could be indicative of a faulty battery. In either case, the best course of action would be to take the ebike in for servicing.

Steps to fix the flashing blue light on an ebike

Step 1: Check Battery Connections

Step 2: Clear any obstructions from the battery connectors

Step 3: Replace the Batteries

Step 4: Reinstall the Electrical System

If the flashing blue light on your ebike is coming from the battery, there are a few things you can do to try and fix it. First, make sure all connections between the battery and the bike are tight. If there are any obstructions, Clear them out by gently pushing them out with a small screwdriver. Next, replace the batteries if they’re low on power. Finally, reinstall the electrical system and check for any issues.

Final Statement

When an ebike is first turned on, the battery will usually flash blue (or other colors) to indicate that it’s getting ready to start charging. This happens because the battery needs time to reach a full charge.

Over time, the battery will stop flashing and will just stay blue. This means that the battery is no longer charging and needs to be replaced.

STAY AWAY.

The doesn’t include the VAT in UK, so when signing a contract keep that in mind because they’ll not say it. Can be in the contract, I’ve asked for a copy but even if this is my fault for not paying the right attention I feel mislead and betrayed because it doesn’t say in their website nothing about this.

When rasing the matter with support, when I mentioned that if it keeps this way I would terminate the agreement, Hazel just asked when I wanted to return the bike, she didn’t even addressed the matter, which I believe it wouldn’t be the right way to deliver proper customer service.

When I was student and was in struggling phase had a same issue. all the rental company in AUS like Zommo are money minded companies. I have rented bike from Zommo and was stolen. And Zoomo has the insurance policy as well which I had included. But they refuse to claim insurance saying it was not lock properly. I need to say more then AUD1200 for that bike.

Bad company

Bad company. Just flourishing in Manchester because no other competitor which means they can literally ask money for anything and you can’t do nothing about it.

What I would suggest is buy your own bike, so you can be in control of it.

They brag about battery timings that I will go for 8 hours but it only goes for 3 to 4 if you are lucky.

Absolutely appalling customer service

Absolutely appalling customer service. I made a booking in November for early December, for two months. Zoomo contacted me and informed me that they didn’t have sufficient bikes and there would be a delay. This I accepted, as I wasn’t in a hurry. Three months later and I’ve never been contacted. I don’t know how they’re in business!

Is this company a scam

Is this company a scam? NO CUSTOMER SERCIVICE! appointment calendar doesn’t work. You have to email in hopes of receiving a response back in 3 days time. But the best of all, is they know how to debit your account without a problem. My son returned his bike last week and is still being charged for it when he was told he’d receive a refund for a portion. An unreal experience! The single most terrible customer service ever!

This is an honest review after working…

This is an honest review after working on Zoomo bikes for 6 months.

Battery does not last 8 hours. 4 hours if you’re lucky, get two to be safe.

15 mph top speed on boost (good enough for around town)

Avoid renting or buying they are known to crack, break and could kill you if travelling at speed. My front forks literally melted and came away, forcing myself over the handlebars with the bike stabbing my leg leaving a hole and serve bruising, that I couldn’t walk. Not an explanation or anything from zoomo so I’m sueing them and kept the bike as evidence

It’s really great experience, as Yasmim who is handling store explain everything smoothly and gave full explanation of bike how it works and what I need to do further to be honest I really enjoyed it Thank you Yasmim.

Zoomo Sports Black, London, UK Fulham

Zoomo bike. UK FulhamRobust frame and loads of support if you’re renting. From my experience of building ebikes, Bafang and 1000w pancake motors are good but they draw a lot of unwanted attention. Bike thieves hate zoomo because of the security features it has. Only worry would be if they follow you in pairs brandishing knives but it’s rare. Lovely lady Nicoletta at the bike store. She helped me understood everything.

They will take your refund

Everything was fine with my bike. I always paid on time for 4 months. Now they keep giving me the run around about refund saying if it was processed 15 days ago. I keep reaching out to them they said if it is not in there the next day to contact my bank. I did and reached out to zoomo and they sent me the exact message saying if it is not in there by the next day call my bank. GTOH ZOOMO Scammers. Don’t expect to get your refund.

My Zomoo experience was terrible

My Zomoo experience was terrible. My back break always broken for 3 months I leaved my bike for repair two time and they told me they fixed but I used my back break only 2 or 3 days after repair dates. My front break is broken yesterday and I called Zomoo today to fix my breaks and they told me I have to book repair day. Closest possible day is in next 2 week. I cannot use my bike because of breaks for 2 weeks and that’s mean I have to pay to Zomoo for nothing. Just “Terrible!” If you wanna good service don’t choose Zomoo bike.

Not really transparent pricing.Nothing about extra charges such as deposit and extra money in case of theft of bike (not insurance) mentioned on their website only found out about these charges when I visited store to pick up my bike. Also mentioned on website are not as the ones they tell you instore. Last thing, they said they do not offer RTO on Zoomo Zero which on the contrary website offers RTO or out right buying option on every bike.In the end had to cancel my pick and a wasted journey.
